Is this seriously the drain plug? Why would you use fine thread in an aluminum block, and why is it so long????? Anyways, oil change and new K&N filter today

No, that is NOT the correct drain plug. It should look like the plug below and it also requires a crush washer that must be changed with each oil change.

lol...someone lost the plug and put THAT in? WTF for real hahaha. That's nuts.

I'd get a magnetic drain plug...if it was me.

Come on! You're a moderator! You know that's a bolt!

I'll bet anything that the idiot who did that OFC dropped the OEM plug right down into the oil catcher,
which of course, did not have a screen over it to prevent such a thing!

Better than stripped threads.

Get the correct drain plug and continue using new copper washers each oil change.

Nope not the OEM drain plug. It might be the correct thread, definitely not the correct length. It's pretty commonplace for imports to use fine threads on the drain plugs on both steel and aluminum oil pans. I believe the OEM plug is m12x1.25 pitch, 12mm long with a 14mm flange hex head. I would try to find out the thread pitch of that bolt before putting in an OEM bolt. The previous owner may have stripped the bolt and re threaded the hole. Or they just lost the bolt and used whatever they could find to fit. It will work until you can get an OEM plug. If it's not leaking and you use a new crush washer every time, there really isn't much to worry about.

Ya, that's definitely not the correct one, but it won't hurt anything.
