I just tried starting my CA18 coupe, and out of nowhere, it started making this clicking noise from the center console. My seatbelt on its track starting moving and stopping, moving and stopping really quickly as it tried to finish it's glide on the track. Then I started hearing this crazy noise from around the center console. It kinda sounded like, "Click Click bzzz bzzzz bzzz bzzz"

I've known my alternator can't really hold a charge with too many accessories on, but I was JUST driving this car 20 minutes ago. What the hell is with this noise and my electrical items going nuts?

I think we've singled it down to the battery being toasted. We tried jumping it and it seemed to crank. When we took the jumper off, the center console started clicking.

Oh well. At least this gives me a chance to finally put my battery to trunk relocation kit into action. I've already got the cable routed under the carpet and right into the trunk. I have to drill and mount the battery box, and hook everything up in the bay.

Sounds like you could have a short or a loose connection somewhere. Maybe a corroded connection.

Wait a second, I assume the car does not start on its own? Does the car start when you jump it? And is it having these problems while it's running. If so, then you have a problem with the alternator. Once you start a car, you can actually take the battery out and it would run fine. The battery is only for starting the car or using accessories when the vehicle is not running. If you have a multi-meter you can just test the voltage while it's running. You should have about 14 volts or so at the battery while the car is running. You should have 12 volts or so while the car is not running.

I didn't use a multi-meter since the batteries in it were long dead. Either way, I've known my alternator has been going bad for a while now. With too much load, it starts bogging down the engine at idle. It can hardly hold an idle with the headlights on.

Since my problem, I've relocated the battery to the trunk and installed a bigger battery from a different vehicle. The car is now rid of my problem. The alternator, however, is still on its way to going out. While I had the problem, I was unable to start the car, but it 'almost' started when jumped. It had at least cranked at that point.

I don't have the +$90 for an alternator rebuild at the moment.
