I got pulled over months ago for modified exhaust, I have APEXI N1 which is 50 states legal (from what people told me). The Trial isn't until the end of Jan which is a good thing. About 20 mins ago, i got pulled over and wrote up.....AGAIN!!! by the same SOB who wrote me my last ticket.....for the same $hit!!!! From the research that i have done (on Apexi website regarding the exhaust modification law in california), it saids that officer cannot issue citation for modified exhaust base on appearance but the noise and the emission. Been trying to convince this dumba$$ officer for about 10 mins and he just gave me $hit for "Oh, if it's not OEM it's illegal" blah blah blah.....whatever jacka$$ go eat $hit (in the back of my head).

so..here's my question for all those who own Apexi N1....where do you guys get the DOT approved document for it? I went on Apex-i website and only found the one on California Highway's law stuff.....where do you guys actually get the document on the product????

If any of you guys have had experience with this in the court before please give me advice...cause i really don't wanna pay $180 (2 tickets) on something like this

Thanks

Wow I love how full of **** some cops are.

How many muffler shops in CA are there? A ton, I'm sure. I don't know many where I live that install OEM exhaust parts, and I kind of dobut that any muffler shop does.

They might be SIMILAR parts, but technically even if it looks the same, if it doenst' come from NISSAN its NOT OEM.

Just my $0.02.

What I'd do, put your stocker exhaust back on and be like, "I don't know what the **** you're talking about... "

n1 is pretty loud... so i dunno about them being legal.. you should put on a silencer... go somewhere to check what the db is with the silencer on... and get some papers.. and show the court the papers (if its at a legal db of course) .... but i'm just talking out of my ***... its a thought though

That might help... but with states in the south typically they have the law on the books as "any exhaust modification that produces noise over OEM, deemed by the officer".

Is California considered a southern state? Yea, just put on the silencer and make an appointment with a DMV site to get it approved. I keep hearing N1's are loud. How loud are they? Also, aren't they pretty quiet when idle?

Hey Nismo_Freak, do you carry any low-profile, quite exhaust? (RSR MAGIC, Blitz TT, or 5 Zigen Border III)....i'm really tired of my luck with N1. If you do...how much? I live in Louisiana....Thanks man

PS. My N1 will be up for sale soon....stay tuned

Any exhaust that requires a silencer SUCKS.

Spend all that $ for a nice system and then have to choke it down with a 2" opening? Makes no sense.

ok, the N1 is approved 50 state legal. They do not provide a CARB sticker for CAlifornia residents though (without this sticker he can write you this same ticket every day). Also, the N1 is only legal when used with a catalytic convertor, and will usually only pass noise limits when on a stock header and stock catalytic convertor.

alright...

here is the way to pass the test..

Put a silencer on... go get your dbA tested under 95dbA and get a sticker that says that your Apexi is legal..then take off the silencer and you now are perfectly legal.

try to get the testing at a California BAR place. they are the legit testing place...they will give you certified report with the trsting and a sticker.

that's what I did, now if any one pulls me over, I have the sticker and paperwork saying it is legal as far as the sound goes... and I have the smog tests, saying it is legal in that sense... so yea..

but they can give you ticket for just about anything you can think off... it's up to you to pass them...

you modify your car, you pay the price... learn to live with it...

No offense to anyone who owns one, and please don't take this as biased, but I'd never want an Apex-i after seeing Dan's (240sx2nr95) N1.

No excuse whatsoever for not using T-304 throughout and representing a system as "full stainless".

Shame shame.

Hey Az, what size resonator would be needed on one of the BRM exhausts to get it below 95 db? Also how easy would it be to take it off since I would probably want it off after I get the sticker from the BAR test.

You might want to keep the resonator, as from what I have heard, they sound soooo much better with it on

Our stuff is ALL under 95 dB (at idle). There are stock systems that register over 95 dB, so the law is screwy.

I have no doubts our system with a 22" resonator will pass the CA dB test.

Removal of the resonator is lame.

well then..

all he has to do is instead of going to a Cali BAR... go to a place in his state that does the dBa testing and get it tested and pass...

once the silencers are installed... the sound is around 92~94 dBa or something.. I'll go and check the papers later.

but they did 3 tests between 3k ~ 3.5k...

Sorry for the ignorant question, but if you live in AZ and go to Cali with an exhaust like HailtotheSilvia... can you still get a ticket?

Also, where do you go to find out the regulations for your area?

Definitely contest, he most likely won't even show up- then you'll win. But still do the research on the db level.

Sadly that shouldn't happen...

Can anyone remeber when the law was changed to make it our responsibility to to prove things are legal instead of innocent until proven guilty...

If that officers clearly harrassing you like he seems o be I say you take it to court and make him look like a fool, just simply play a noise in the range of 95db and ask him to estimate it...these guys get no training in that, the way these laws are written is ridiculous illegal and designed to create reasons to harrass us

Yea these petty laws really do suck.Freedom of travel isn't a privelage anyway, it's a God given right. I understand their need to regulate everything, and really loud mufflers or whatever being a nuisance- but c'mon, there are thousands of other illegal things going on at any given moment, why don't they cram that petty stuff and go for the real criminals. You're right sky, guilty until proven innocent is more like it. Very similar to slavery huh? No wait.. It is slavery.. hehe

Are you refering to how the back of the actual muffler is not stainless steal and will rust out!? cuz thats exactly what is happening to mine! I already have 2 holes in it! i searched but can't find a threath with 240sx2nr95's N1 topic.

Do you know if there is anything that can be done regarding this? It only has a 1 year warranty..
