I removed the exhaust manifold to fix one of the studs since it was torn off when I received the engine. So I fixed it with a perma-coil thread repair kit. ordered a gasket. now I was placing the manifold back on and I got the bolts snug. I used the torque wrench at 15lbs so it will all be uniform to begin with and this other stud just snapped (more like melted off, like butter).

If I can pick up the engine I would have a hole in the garage wall about the size of the engine.

What's the deal with that?

Also, I was going to tighten it to 33-35 ft-lbs. Is that about right?

From surfin SDU and Skylines Australia, it seems this is a common problem... either the heat weakens the stud and or the stud might have been overtorqued before... Anyways I think about 30 ft-lbs should be fine

no, just replace the ones that break

those studs are in a horribly hostile enviornment, they break constantly.

Do you know the part # of the exhaust manifold gasket? is it the same as the rB20?

I don't know if it's the same as the rb20. I ordered it from rbmotoring.com . the exhaust alone is $64. I also ordered the intake manifold gasket $25 since I thought I would remove that too. I'll save it for the future greddy intake.

rbmotoring would know and sells gasket separately and in kits.# 626-961-9213

sorry but on the invoice it just says "rb25det exhaust manifold gasket" no specific part #.

Allright, the bad boy's out! Now if only I can find the same stud. I can't find the washers that came with the engine. I was at the dealers today to look for the thick washers but all they have are 6mm. the rb is 8mm. So hopefully I can find the correct stud.

YOU MAY WANT TO GET A QUALITY STAINLESS STUD SET FROM ARP, TELL THEM THE BOLT DIMENSIONS AND ITS AREA OF USE AND THEY WILL GET YOU SOMETHING THAT WILL LAST AND BE STRONG.

I just changed all of them with nissan oem part # 14064-2w600 studs $1.50. Slightly shorter but works. Didn't use the big washers anymore. Used a nut with a wide end that's suppose to take the heat just fine. I believe it's for a pathfinder exhaust manifold nut which is $1.10 part # 14094-31u00. The mechanic told me that they don't use the washers anymore when they use the nut with the flange. Torqued it to 30 ft lbs.

BTW I went to 6-7 parts stores and couldn't find a similar stud. Only one had some but they were really short. I looked hard since I was told by a dealer "off the top of his head" $5 per stud. Had no clue what he was talking about. Hate them.

M10 X 1.25 both ends
