Just finished swapping in a 130k engine on monday. Running 8psi. All emissions removed.. Day one to my house...everything is fine for the 5mile drive. Day 2 Go to parts store to get some oil.... As I leave the parking lot my temp is high. I was 1mile from my house, so start he rup and coast for a little bit.... did this maybe 6 times to my driveway. I have a koyo radiator with 2 12" fleaxalite fans pullers... Get to my house bottom hose is cold. Great stuck themrostat.... I removed it yesterday and sealed her back-up...Yesterday night I went out and played with some hondas and pissed them off No problems except tires can't keep traction.... Today on my 20mile drive to work/motorcycle store it's a tad hot but hey it's Florida... Get off on my exit and go 1.3 miles to the shop... It's still getting hotter... Car sits for abotu 45 minutes..... Start her up and she is at operating temperature. and is fine for 20minutes through stop and go traffic in Daytona right until I reach the hotel it start to get hot.....Tonight on my way home she is fine until an srt-8 wants some Shes a tad high but then goes back down....... get on the freeway and it gets hotter but holds....... Lowered speed to 65...... after 15miles I get on it when a gt mustang comes by.... and the temperature drops way low then after 2minutes of play I get off my exit... Do a little launch spinning through 1st... Real hot....Nothing is mixed warter/oil car idles fine even with open downpipe...

Dieing waterpump??? Is my only guess...Or is it the coolant sensor screwing with me....

It doesnt really sound like a HG problem to me, i would say your WP is going. That bit about you stomping on it and your CLT readings going down would make sense if your waterpumps tryen to take a crap on you.

You would see a lot of bubbles in you radiator because of compression getting in your water system or even smell exhaust in the coolant. Im sure you know that lol. Check you fans too man make sure they're running correctly. I have mine running all the time with a relay. The relay died one day because of my dumb wiring and the car temp was like yours for a while. The relay would turn on and off. Oh well just giving my thoughts.

What brand of thermostat did you buy? The reason I ask that I had the same problem with AutoZone and AdanceAutoParts thermostats. It would work for a while and start to overheat. Turn motor off for a minute start back up everything is fine. I would recommend a NISMO. since I have switch to a NISMO I have had no further problems. One option you might want to try is to drill out the relief valve on the thermostat. That way if you have a air pocket it will still circulate. I would try that before I started to remove the water pump. Usually a water pump will start to leak or start making noise before it will go out.

I did something that may or may not apply to you.

But when I replaced my defective thermostat, I drilled 8x 1/16" holes around the edge so that water and air could still get through, just not alot. This helped when I had to bleed the air out of the system, and it actually warms up faster.

To each his own. And that's my $.02

Well at 130k it's good to replace the water pump anyways.

But about the air holes on the T-Stat it seems like it's almost a must on the KA. Every friend I eve had that replaced a T-Stat with no holes had weird problems like that.

As soon as we got one and drilled at least on hole and place it at 12'oclock, it started working fine. KA's are very picky about air being in the system.

I would also replace both temp sensors, especially the one that goes to the ECU. For some reason those like to go bad too. Although you really don't hear about them cause the problems they cause usually make people think it's something way worse.

Water pump did have a rough spot in it while spinning it.... ALSO after removing the water pump and cleaning the surface I noticied something blue.... in the radiator fluid sitting inside the block...... o no worries it was just a piece of blue gasket maker 6 inches long..

I just bleed my system, fixing to go for a cruise. My guess is maybe that gasket maker was wrapped around the pump... and was restricting it's job.... On a side note when you remove your lower radiator hose to drain the fluids.... Make sure to hook it back up before filling your radiator up

I agree not hooking that back up is what put my car on a downward spiral to the point where I am at now. Back in july of 2006 I didnt check the lower hose and blew the headgasket!!!!

... you didn't notice fluid dumping everywhere when you were filling it back up? Or did you just not fill it back up?

Didnt even know it was off. So I didnt know it was out of fluid and that plus a bad water temp gauge is bad news!!!
