Toxic Algae in New Zealand, holy shiznit!
People in Canterbury are being advised to avoid two rivers in the region after high levels of a potentially toxic algae were detected. Canterbury Regional Council has found phormidium, which can be harmful to humans and animals, in the Ashley River in Rakahuri near State Highway 1 and the Waipara River at Stringers Bridge. The Canterbury medical officer of health says people should not drink contaminated water from these rivers, even if boiled. Alistair Humphrey says exposure may cause skin rashes, nausea, stomach cramps, tingling and numbness around the mouth and fingertips in humans. Symptoms in dogs include muscle tremors, twitching, paralysis and convulsions.

African Pig Plague, :wtf2:
Health authorities in Russia's southern Kuban region will slaughter hundreds of pigs possibly infected with African Pig Plague, reported on Tuesday. Health experts do not believe African Pig Plague to be dangerous to humans, but pigs and pork infected with the disease are not safe for human consumption. Health inspectors detected presence of the disease in early December, and authorities have placed a five-kilometre quarantine zone around a farm found to contain six infected animals, said Igor Tsokur, an Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman. The destruction of 904 animals at the swine farm near the village Staroshcherbinskiy is necessary to prevent the spread of the disease, Tsokur said. The last outbreak of pig plague in the area was registered in November, at another Kuban province farm. Health officials destroyed more than 5,000 animals. Pig Plague is also known as classical swine fever or hog cholera. African Pig Plague is a strain of the disease thought to have first appeared in the Caucasus region 5 t0 6 years ago, since then spreading to Armenia, Georgia, Russia, and Ukraine.

Very cool. I guess the massive social implosion going on in Hartford has not yet hit that website. :)

I'm surprised Nala's failure at scoring doesn't show up.

Funny that the map is nowhere near up to date though...

The events are live, but the map is old. I zoomed in on my house and saw my work truck from the company that I stopped working for in March, (older still) my ex-fiance's car that hasnt lived there since last August (and still older), my Jetta that I havent owned since the beginning of 08. Strange flashback.
