Maybe the independent/third party movement is finally having an effect on strictly party-line voting.

I think the time has come for a viable third party. That would offer more of a choice to all voters and it would offer the chance for more cooperation between parties.

As a side note, I helped register two new voters last night. It so happens that they registered democrat, but they really didn't understand the difference and thought that they couldn't vote for Obama unless they did. My point is that regardless of the party a person chooses, 90% (a guess) of them can't tell you why they joined that party. Being an independent makes the choice much easier.
