I had a timing belt bundle on hand for a 92 V6 that had not been opened.
Last April I bought a 95 Pathy V6 with 125K miles on it and decided to use whatever parts from the kit that I could.
The Nissan dealer said everything but the timing belt and tensioner spring could be used and so I bought those two new items.
I took the bundle and the box with the new timing belt and tensioner spring to my mechanic and he got it done but he used the tensioner spring from the bundle instead of the new one.
So I have a 95 timing belt with a 92 tensioner spring and I need some opinions from you guys as to whether this warrants a teardown to replace the spring or leave it as is?
My options here are:
1) I can drive it and worry about what's going to happen and when.
2) I can pay him again to do it over with maybe a small price break.
3) I could attempt changing the spring myself if it is a simple "remove one spring and replace with another" procedure.
The mechanic is confident that everything is "just fine" and he would drive it with no worries. But I wonder what reason Nissan had for changing the spring in the 95's or 93 or whenever the change occurred? Is it a stronger spring or what?
The mechanic said that you only need the spring when starting the vehicle but it is not in use while you are driving it.
Is that correct? If true I would feel better for sure.
I am afraid to drive it until I get some opinions from you guys with timing belt experience and I can decide what to do.
Thanks for any help!
