Here my questions. My shop replaced my headgasket on my sr20det, so when i went to put the valve cover i noticed i was missing a head bolt . one that was under the cam. i went to see about gettign a new one and every one tells me they are allen head bolts, not the 10 mm hex one im seeing under the other cam

did my shop put the wrong ones in or is it ok to have the hex 10 mm in

I don't see why it would make a difference. The nuts on my arp head studs are some SAE size (forget which size) but they're 12 point. Doubt it'll make any difference with the head of the bolt, but if you're missing a head bolt, that's a big problem. All the head bolts I've pulled though have always been allen unless they're ARP which uses the 12 point...so that might be something to look into. If you're missing a head bolt, the head might not be seating properly, which one is the one in question? Are you sure it's missing one and not just oil covering up the bolt?

I don't mean to thread jack but this might relate, when you do a head swap do you replace the head bolts, or can you reuse the old ones?

I'm only trying to find out because I'm trying to change out my head and I'm at the point of putting the head back on.

too late you've already done it. But to answer your question yes they can be reused if they're within spec. Their length is to be less than 158.2mm.
