Alright electronic gurus or DIYers--

I am requesting a writeup on how to modify our side mirror turn signals into sequentials. (Like what dangeris did to his front LED strips). I'd do it but I lack the required electrical knowledge.

Let's see it!

should be possible if the turn signal bulbs are wired seperatly. You will need a sequential kit which the last time I saw ran about $65-$80. I have never done sequentials before but the sequential kit doesnt look like its to complex. Maybe Surnman can get a kit and start makeing them him self and selling them. Come on surnman you know you can and you know you want some extra money. lol I would buy it

I'm gonna keep bumping this till someone figures it out. I have the initiative to take my mirrors apart, but none of the knowledge to begin to try to make it work.

a sequential unit shouldnt cost that much... but it has to do with the wiring of the leds...

For instance, with the led runing light setup.. they dont go on individually, but rather in groups based upon the way they get their power.

Im no electrical guru, but id assume based on the amount of leds in the mirror (how many is it, 5? 6?) it would only be 2 stages of sequential... The power wiring is really the determining factor in this.

ok guys a sequential turn signal is nothing to complicated its a modal that costs $15 and just hooks up to your existing wiring of your turn signal inside is a little micro oscillator timer if anyone is interested they can read up on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/555_timer_IC i actually had some ideas for the mirrors check it out first replace the nasty orange turn signal lights on the mirrors to white surface mounted led shouldn't be to hard since they are mounted on a circuit board ( i would have done this earlier but i used the leds for that on LBC gauges.) next for the mirror itself i was thinking of installing (retrofitting oh i love that word) inside the mirror an led arrow http://www.ezwalker.com.tw/Pro...2.png and connect all that to a sequential modal

It's actually pretty simple to do - just requires time and some electrical know-how, plus being able to fit everything somewhere.

You have to be able to make a board with a set of capacitors on it to control the flow of electricity to the lights, while splicing our the original circuit onto 2 or 3 (depending on what you want to do) different lines that wire back into the board with the capacitors on it. When you send the juice into the board, the capacitors take care of the timing because of their stored energy - they'll discharge at different times based on the amount that they can hold.

All in all I don't think that this is something super-viable to do, considering the size and amount of lights contained within the side-view mirror turn signal - it would be very difficult for you to achieve something that looks the way you would want it to, and to have it time up with the front blinker in a manner that makes the side blinker look that good either.

That's just my .02 though...

EDIT: Ok apparently surnamn posted as I was posting. It's possible - i still don't think it will look that great on the side mirror though...

Speaking of clusters... ahem ahem.. do you need a grand entrance or something?

Im sure the space inside the mirror is super tight... i didnt even think of that.. i remember the sequential part i had on my mustang was the size of a roll of nickels... idk where the hell that would go... maybe you would have to run the wiring back into the door and do it all in there... Doesnt seem worth the time/investment/headaches to do this IMO

I don't think this is what Maxentropy meant...

That's what you are talking about...max meant on the other side where the 3.5 has the turn signal already...

I think...

yeah that's what i meant you think they will look better red or white the arrows? yeah i know what maxentropy meant i was planning on doing the same thing with the sequential turn signals but figure at the same time change the color of the original orange ones to white and also add those arrow like you showed in the pic link them all up to the sequential

ahh gotcha - what color is your coupe? For me, I would love red, as my car is a mix of the grey paint with red calipers, etc...if you have a black or grey it would look sweet in red, but I feel like if you have the blue or red, i would stick with the yellow, as it would "pop" more...

thanks for checking, and I would go with yellow or white. If you still have the amber turn signal in your headlights, stick with the amber. If you put the chrome white turn signal bulbs in then go with white LED's

yea, i would say go with the yellow then - it would have more "pop" and effect i feel, whereas the red might get muddled in. Although red does look good when you look at red calipers on a blue car...hopefully a few more people will chime in...

thanks marlin-- yes I'm simply looking at the outside of the mirror where the LEDs already exist to light up sequentially when I use them to make a turn.

Whats the best way to go about this? How much cost is associated and how difficult? surmanm-- would this involve you soldering or can one just hook the LEDs currently in the mirror to a sequential turn kit?

Just becareful when doing this guys. I already had that turn signal assembly off of the car. Pretty easy to get to but it is a sealed unit. and if you mess it up, it's going to be about $200 from the dealer to replace it. The directional arrows can be bought from Muth. The currently do not make a signal mirror for our cars but I bet with enough interest, we can get them to make it.

This is what I got when I did it on my FJ Cruiser. The mirrors are great and really helps for our blind spots.

Maybe we can contact them and have them become a vendor then a group buy
