Short story: Cracked ring lands in cyl 6 on a newer rebuild (10k kms on it). Bought OEM piston+pin and will re-use stock rod.

I cannot get the wrist pin started in the piston, it is way too tight. I tried heating the piston up like the fsm says, we have a hot tank that cleans parts that works at 150*. I used that but it doesn't go in at all.

My local machine shop says thats way too tight if it needs to be heated up, what gives?

 wish I could help, mine went in and out with a little tap of the rubber mallet.

I ended up contacting a few people including Z1 and Greg @ SZ. I stuck the piston in my oven for a bit until the piston got up to around 140*F (used an non-contact temp gun). Then the pin pressed in easily by hand.

Few methods are:
Freezing wrist pin
Heating piston
Wrist pin press @ room temp

I know this is old, but found it when searching a couple things... Just an FYI in case people are nervous about heating them up like you did, the FSM actually calls for heating them up to install

Almost all engines require that the wrist pins be heated in order to press them in. That's how they the machine shop I use does it when I build small block fords and chevys.
