hey guys, am going through some really rough times and i would appreciate some help/opinions on a choice am unfortunately forced to make.

yesterday on my way home from work it was raining and i hydroplaned on a turn on the local bridge... which sent me into a series of spins that i tried to control as best as i could but i still hit the wall twice...back first...then spun again...then the front hit the wall... everything was ok except for the car, the traffic behind me was far enough to have time to stop, and nothing happened to me except for a soar neck...

the car in the other hand looks salvageable on the front, i think a new rad support and bumper support/cover and a drivers fender could fix it, but the back since it hit first on the driver's side too, it's crumbled up on the whole quarter panel and my driver's rear wheel looks all out of whack, and obviously the back bumper and support are screwed too, am afraid there was some frame damage but am not sure since i haven't pulled it apart yet...

now on to the decision, my friends/family keep telling me that it might be a better idea to just find a shell and swap all my good stuff rather than fixing it, but i said the only way i'll swap shells it's to a convertible, there is a guy about two hours away from me that has a convertible with a few issues that he is willing to let go for around $1500, am trying to keep my self from getting in a crush with the thing and just go get it.... lol...

so plain and simple: fix mine or get another shell? what would you do??

also is there any advantages/disadvantages to a convertible?? i really like them a lot, and i would love to own one, but will it handle the same as my hatch? or better?? weight more? or less??? we all know the old "loose the top, loose the handling" quote, but does it apply as bad to 240's??

thanks in advance for all or any input!

1.Get the Vert!
2.Daily it.
3.Make a track monster!
4.Crash it again
5.Fix it again!
=D

also remember to fix mine am gonna need a paint job/body panels/certain amount of hours at the local u-pull plus work on it...., it seems like a new shell might turn out cheaper somehow...

Sorry to hear about that man, glad you're ok. As for the car though just tub the front end, weld in a new radiator support. For the back just pull the quarters out as much as you can and get a new subframe, this could be your chance for overfenders and widebody :dblthumb:

theblaiant: thats actually one of my main issues that this car is or will be my daily so i need to make a decision fast, my work schedule doesn't give me much room to play.... i would love to make a track monster but i'm only 20 which means i still live with my parents, and they are pretty old school and i don't think they will allow for that...lol you know a dead car sitting in the driveway doesn't look too pretty for them, it does to me! but not to them lol, so whatever i could get out of the hatch would be part out and junk yard....

pacotaco: overfenders sound tempting, but might not match my time frame/budget, lol ..... would tubing the front take away any major structural strength??

Having gone through something similar with another vehicle. I would say swap everything over if the other shell is in good shape not needing any work etc. If it has issues I would offer 800 for it and see what sort of number he throws back at you.
Im saying this assuming your body is in pretty bad shape.
