Sadly, I had a fender bender yesterday; front left. Destroyed the bumper, headlight assembly, wrinkled the fender a little so the door wouldn't open, and pushed the wheel back against the wheel well. Yes, insured and the car is in a good body shop. I was surprised to learn that the Nissan dealers in central Texas don't have body shops. None in San Antone, San Marcos, or Austin.

I'm sure the car will be fixed perfectly, but I'm concerned about all the mechanical/electrical parts in the front; engine, trans, wheels, cv joints, sensors, electronics, etc. It could be ok now, but 6 months later, something could break due to the damage of the collision. Any of you dealing with a front end collision and having problems after repairs?

Certainly possible but not likely in my experience. I'm not sure what options you have if that happens down the road.

Gee, sorry to hear your bad luck.

IMHO, it is very difficult to repair a uni-body vehicle like the Rogue after a serious collision. There will always be issues. Even my body-on-frame '87 Pathfinder was never the same after a serious side impact.

Some issues I encountered with my Pathfinder:

- Driveability issues related to incomplete repairs. Even items not directly affected by the collision had unseen damage that appeared years down the road.- Wiring and sensor issues.- Poor or incomplete bodywork resulting in rust forming months after the repair.

IMHO, many body shops and insurance companies try to do the cheapest repairs which although cosmetically look OK, are total junk. I would try to talk to your insurance about this. Explain that you are not happy with simply repairing such serious damage and you are concerned about future reliability and safety of 'your investment'. You may have to very persistent, but you may be able to get them to write off your vehicle or get some sort appraised value refund that would allow you to replace your Rogue with a new one.

I like your reply. Emphasizing SAFETY will make any insurance adjuster quake in their boots. Document contacts. Document, document, document.

I checked in with the body shop yesterday, and it was already disassembled. This shop painted an '85 E-150 van that I've had since it's birth and they did an excellent job. He's using all new OEM parts and refuses to use after market or repair bent parts. So the bumper, plus lights, left fender, and all left side suspension/components will be new Nissan parts. My insurance is USAA and you can't beat them for service. Right now, it's looking like about $6k.
