I'm confused. You did what to make him do what? Which side of the truck was his exhaust exit? Did you put it in first instead of putting on the brake to slow down or did you put it in first to accelerate faster? If you slowed to open a spot for him in your lane, then it sounds like you did nothing wrong. But still, in that situation I can see how the person driving the truck would think that you were wanting to stay in your lane if you open a spot ahead of you for him to get into your lane. And therefore, being in a tall truck, may well not see you when he goes to merge back into the other lane if you're right up beside him. Yes, it's his fault, but honestly, you should have more presence of mind and know better than to open a gap for a tall vehicle that can't see directly behind very well and then try to shoot around in the lane right next to it.
