Well, I have killed my beloved Q. I had a minor crash in the front that caused the insurance company to total it. I have the option to buy it back for salvage costs. So, I am writing this to see if any of you want it for parts or recovery.

I ran into a Ford Explorer trailer hitch and crunched the bumper, grill and hood pretty good. Both front fenders seem fine though. The windshield is cracked from a previous rock and I guess some of the parts immediately behind the grill are bent up. The lights in the front are trash.

Except for that stuff, it is great. It is black with gold trim and a black interior. It has 151K on it and was my pride and joy. The car came from AZ and I have garaged it since then. The fuel pump is almost new and it has great Michelin Pilot 235HR/15 tires on custom wheels. It also has all docs, floor mats, a factory telephone and the factory Sony 10 disc CD changer with cartridge. EVERYTHING works and is in great shape.

I also have a factory new Gold “Q45t” label set for the rear spoiler and factory technical manual. I can probably be talked out of them for the right price.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and am offering it to anybody that can pick it up and enjoy it. I don’t know how long I have to make the decision to keep it or not…

SO, if you or anybody is interested in it, please let me know ASAP.

Lanny:If I was you I'd seriosuly consider getting it fixed.

You wont be able to find nearly as nice a car for what the insurance pay-off will give you.Exept maybe anotehr Q and that likely wont be in as good a mechanical shape.

Fred,

I can see from your car description that you also love Qs...

I am in the process of moving to Idaho and was going to have to trade in the Q for a 'snow car'. They dont have any Infiniti dealers close to my new house... I have been there many times now and have never even seen an Inifniti there... Not a good sign...

I just bought a... Jeep... Gag...

So, I cannot keep it. I would just be too painful...

A second car as winter car is alwasy useful.

All Q's have an LSD and as such are perfectly good for winter.I know with todays FWD fad the general percxeption has become that RWD is only good for sunbelt but I like to remind memebrs that for decades RWD is all we had and people got thru winters fine.

As for being in the boonies, infinitipartsusa.com ( ask for Joe and ID yourself as NICO member) can get you all the Infinti parts you need. There is nothing super complicated on the Q were you <have> to have an Infiniti tech for non major work.

We have members with Infiniti's in Ivory Coast, Costa Rica and Dominican replublic...

I'd think it could be parted out for much more than they'd want for it, but if timing and space are tight, your decision may be made for you.

Rex,

Yep, I have no space and very little time, so you may be right...

It is in such great shape - in and out - except for the (^%*) front damage... My insurance company even said it was in great shape...

Bummer,

Lanny

Lanny - I'd LOVE to buy the 10-disc changer from you - Whether you part the car or not.

What's the salvage cost on the car?

Hitman,

I don't have access to the car or its parts and won't have until I 'buy' it, as it were...

I am 'guessing' that the salvage cost to me will be in the $1,500-$2,000 range. I haven't talked to the insurance company since I don't know what to tell them yet....

If I can get the cost taken care of, I will take the highest bidder as long as it isn't a big hassle. It would be too painful to mess with it too much...

No offers as of yet,

Lanny

I was able to buy back my near perfect much modded 91Q w/170k miles for $600 after it was totaled.transpostarntion form accident site (in PA) to my location(KY) ate up an additional $850 + some hassle.

My car had more miles than yours and a couple model years older.

Lanny, depending on whether you have accepted the check from the insurance company, or not, you can still keep the car, and keep a clean title.

This is how I got my 1994 Q45 from a co-worker:

Car was estimated at a total loss (Transmission damage). $9,000.00 in repair

Value of car was $9,300.00

Insurance company would pay up to 80% of total value ($7,300.00) less the $1,000.00 deductable for just repairing the damage.

I got a quote for $7,000.00 for the repairs, from the local dealership (under the 80% limit).

The insurance agent gave the owner a check for $6,000.00 and I gave him a check for $2,300.00, and got the car with a clean title.

You can not put full coverage insurance on a car with a salvage title.

The car is worth more, with a clean title, and if the damage is all cosmetic, it can be fixed fairly easily.

If you can float the difference (usually 20% of its value), a NICO member might grab it up.

Jeff,

Thanks for all your input about this. I didn't know about the 'salvage title' issue. I guess if someone really wants to explore that, I will, but I just don't have the space or energy to spend on it without being inspired.

It was really good 'talking' to you,

Lanny

Lanny, same goes here.

If you can get pics of the car, it would sell in a second, based on our conversation.

God bless.

Fred's $600 salvage sounds pretty good, for anyone who had the time/space to take advantage of it. $1500 is too hard to rationalize, unless the engine had a lot fewer miles on it. I assume the car runs fine? Do you know if the AC still works? Sorry to hear of your loss. Don't know what I'd do if I lost my Q.

Lanny, I thought about it all last night.

Do you know if the damage is more severe than cosmetic?

Do you have the estimate from the insurance agent?

Is the car in a salvage yard, an insurance yard, or at a body shop?

Was the car driveable, after the accident?

If you could get me a copy of the estimate from your agent, and ask them to give you a copy of their pictures (they usually all have digital cameras, now) or get some pics you can email me, I am interested in the car.

The big problem, is I don't want the car, if it has to go through the salvage title route, I am not interested.

Here is what I see:

Kelley Blue Book Value (Retail)

Engine: V8 4.5 LiterTrans: AutomaticDrive: Rear Wheel DriveMileage: 155,000 Touring, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Telescoping Wheel, Cruise Control, AM/FM Stereo Cassette Multi Compact Disc, Premium SoundIntegrated Phone, Dual Front Air Bags, ABS (4-Wheel), Traction Control, Leather, Dual Power Seats, Sliding Sun Roof, Rear Spoiler, Premium Wheels

$7,495.00 Retail Value $ 500.00 Deductible???$5,996.00 80% from Insurance company$ 999.00 Minimum Bid

This is what I am thinking...let me know what your ideas are.

If the car is driveable, or the repair is cosmetic only and the car is in as good a shape as you mentioned, then this is a smokin' deal. I can have it transported for about $500.00 (Guess).

It all hinges on whether you can get your agent to work with you.

Shoot me the details:
