Sorry guys, but i just got my car a few weeks ago, and i wrecked it, in the rain, going too fast(nothing ridiculous, probly 10-15 over the limit, i think limit is 30) and i understeered over a curb into a tree. I got ticketed for going to fast for the conditions, and failure to maintain lane. Anyone know if they might take my license for that? But just to let you guys know, im gonna do my best to not inflate the already inflated 240 prices, and get the frame fixed and do the rest of the work myself with junkyard parts i guess. The front end on the inside of the drivers headlight is pushed almost to the firewall, but not to the engine. Anyone have a ballpark of how much getting the frame fixed and then how much the rest would be assuming i can find a 240 with a good front end at a junkyard? i mean any numbers would be apprieciated. Ill try to get a pic posted up soemtime soon. Also i dont have any practical experience with body work and the such, but im very inclined and ive i was considering buying a car that was messed up just so i could get my hands dirty and learn. How dificult do you think it would be for me to do this?

Fixing frame damage is going to be probably $5-7k, then there's the subframe, the body parts/panels, suspension, etc probably talking $10-12k when everything is said in done for a car that is going to have a salvage title and wil never drive the same. Not worth it.

I hope you have insurance, if you do, they will total it, but then its possible you can buy the remains back from them. Then your'e on your own as far as fixing costs go, and i'm sure you don't have a frame-puller at your house. This is not a job to attempt when you don't have experience with body work, not to mention the right equipment.

Yeah, i have a co-worker who got into a collision with another car at a yield sign, the wheels of his truck took the brunt of the hit, causing unseen frame damage to an otherwise perfect looking truck. Frame-shop fixed it through his insurance company--bill was $4k, so i figure in your case it would be much higher due to the severity of the impact.

p.s. The 240sx is not a beginner car, should've went with fwd for starters.

No offense, but going 10-15mph over the limit in the rain is not safe in any vehicle, if there's any time to obey the speed limit is when the weather conditions are crap. Your insurance rates are going to go up even higher now since you are considered high-risk. Well, thankfully you didn't take someone else out and hopefully you learned from your mistake. Take care.

just learn from your mistakes. I would buy a car that has damage that you can take off your car to fix, that owuld be your cheapest road to go down

I've been sitting here looking at this thread thinking "I shouldn't post what I'm thinking" but ya know what? I'm going to.

This is exactly why kids have a bad rap, tuners in general have a bad rap, and why prices of 240's are inflated. Because they're trendy and careless kids with no sense buy them, screw around in them, and wreck them. Kids piss me off. God I feel old, and I'm only 23.

I realize this makes me look like the *******, but I can assure you I'm not the only one thinking it.

your going to get a ticket and then dmv is going to interview you. there going to review you and prob deem you a "negligent operator" (sp?) if they do that, they are going to take you licence for 6 months and interview you again to see if you should have it back.

as far as the ticket goes...I dont know how tickets work where you are but here in cali....if the police are not on scene they can write you a ticket but you can go to court and plead not guilty due to lack of evidence and it gets dropped.

Thats what I was wondering how do they know how fast you were going or why you wrecked? I dont see how you can give someone a ticket for that cause my friend wrecked his Mustang on a wet road but he was going under the speed limit... He slid out on a corner also....
