Firstly, I have been using my mechanic since 1992 so I know I can trust him. Back before I was a Realtor, I did all my own work. Now I don't have the time (Yes, some of us are still busy) so I find myself taking things in more often.
The DAY BEFORE I was taking my rig in for some scheduled maintenance, I am in the line to make a left turn and every time I give it a little gas, the car stall and lurches forward. When I get to make the turn, it does the same thing and takes off at a million miles an hour (OK, it's a 3.3L so it was more like 30mph). I hit the freeway on ramp and the thing accelerated like Drew Carey chest deep in a swimming pool full of cold Canadian Maple syrup.
At some point, my SES light came on. I went to Autozone and pulled the codes. I read P0120 (Throttle Position Sensor) twice and a P0325 (Knock Sensor 1.) I have had the knock sensor code before. Both sensors tested bad. The throttle sensor was $150 and the knock sensor was $110! Ouch, that's 3 times the cost of my Chevy!
Part of my maintenance trip includes cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. I religiously monitor my mileage, so I'll be curious to see if this changes anything.
