Ok, I just have to say that Kumho 711 tires are the worst tire I've ever owned in my life. I bought them with a tire and wheel pkg. A long time ago and they BLOW. Even in clear, dry SoCal weather they suck. They do not grip AT ALL. In the rain, it's even worse! I can't stand these hunks of junk.

Take today for example. Driving to school and drive through a patch of water, I mean a really tiny stream of water. I'm going 20 mph and coming up to a right hand turn after just going through the water. Take the turn slightly and the whole backend fishtails and I'm sliding through the intersection trying to keep the car on the road And what was worse was there was a COP waiting at the other side of the intersection watching me!

Luckly, he didn't feel the need to pull me over... But he could have and I could have gotten a ticket all because of these dumbass tires. Anyone have a good tire recommendation for 225/45/17? I was thinking Yoko AVS ES100's but I've heard they don't last long at all.

I have the Khumo 712s and have not experienced the problem you are having.

There a chance it's your driving habits causing the issue?

Yeah I have the 712s and I have no complaints about them. I mean obviously they aren't the best tire out on the market, but for the price I like them. Maybe you should try the 712s or just not stepping on the gas when you go through a puddle.

I did the kunho ride and drive test with the different tires on the new MINIthe way the kunho rep explained it the 711's are just a cheap tire to use when you've spent all your money on wheels, the come in all the new upsized popular sizes and offer better grip than the standard passanger tire and are pretty inexpensive $, the 712's are the real street performer but they come at a higher price $also when your running such a low profile tire your gonna loose streightline traction and your not gonna have any sidewall frex on corners, so either your gonna have traction or you won't that's why serious drag cars and roar race cars run tires with a bit more sidewall

i running the yoko es100's on my Q and really like them. a little noisy but the grip is great! yes, they wear faster than an all season regular tire, but they are a performance tire.

I have Kumho Ecsta Supra's and they are extremely good in dry conditions. In the wet... they are a little sloppy. But still overall, they are FAR better than the Goodyear Eagles and GT's I used to run.

a good alternative to the 712, or even the yokos, is an Avon tire. I have the Tech M500 series on my car, and I absolutely love them. I was set on getting a set of Kuhmo 712s until I started looking at reviews for the Avons. People who flog their Z28s and M3s were recommending the Tech over the Yoko Advans because of extended tread life, and better wet weather performance. They produce a very good amount of dry grip. A bit short of a Yoko Advan, but for the price, I think they can't be beat.

Check out Tire Rack and read some of the reviews.

if you are running 711's then i assume cost is an issue? i dont care for the kumho 712's that much. i like the yoko es100 and the kumho ecsta mx. i also like the bridgestone potenza line. some are not all that like the re92 but most potenzas rock.

At the time I bought my wheels, I wasn't very tire savy so they offered me the 711's and I said sure. I would like a tire that is around $100 bucks each.

Also, my friend has these same tires on his eclipse and has had the same problems. I'm talking about the 711's, not the 712's. Also the ride is really stiff. Of course you get that from a more low pro tire, but they are really bad. I think tire rack even stated the unusually stiff side walls.

BTW, I shift at 3k every gear, and HARDLY run it past 4k. And as I stated, I was going 20mph.... I don't think it's my driving habits

Yeah. Avons are good tires. They're all I run on motorcycles.

kumho's are ok for the price, nothing in their price range can compare to them. I've heard really good things about the avon's too, but they were out of my price range.I went with falken azenis sport Rt's, they ****ing rule. tread life isn't bad either.

I have Kumho 712 and have no problems with them at all. They're better than Goodyear, but are uncomparable to Yoko's. If money is not an issue I recommend getting Yokohama's.

I've got Kumho Ectsa KH11's and been running them for about 25k miles. I'm pretty happy with them. I bought Kumho Ectsa STX for my mom's pathfinder and she's had them for at least 20k and been very happy.

I'm with the others...perhaps it's more your driving style or your tires are too worn..

Sorry bro, but that was a bad driving incident, you should slow down, and you get what you pay for.

Want performance? Buy a performance tire? What kind of performance do you want? Summer performance? Track performance? Winter performance? Wet weather/standing water performance?

No one tire can do all these, and no tire at your price point can do ANY of these very well.

My tires have 4k miles on them... And like I said, I took the corner at 20 mph... I don't care what anyone says, I hate these tires with a passion and will never buy them again aswell as my friend with the same problems. Hello Yoko's !

I had 712s on my WRX. Not the best dry weather tire, but great in wet weather. That combined with the AWD made that car completely invincible in the rain. Imagine my surprise when I moved to the S14, more than a few unintended fishtails followed.

Hahaahahaha.... from WRX to s14? OUCH!!! That's a step down in just about every way possible. The only thing good about that trade is that the car you own now has a Nissan badge on it. Not trying to crap on the s14, I happen to love mine, but it's completely nutless compared to the WRX, and handles like a$$ in bad weather. On a dry day they probably match in the handling department... but that's about it.

I also say its driving technique. RWD is bad in wet. I didn't know we had to tell you that. The same thing that makes it fun to drive on dry roads, and driftable, makes it ****ty to drive fast on wet roads without wagging the tail. When I drive my s13's on wet roads in a hurry, you just get used to counter steering (in west virginia anyway, if you ever drive the secondary roads there you would understand).

Best tires for me are the Toyo Proxes RA1's but they are too expensive to use on street cars, they wear out every 7k miles and their wet traction sucks. Dry, there is no other tire with that kind of treadlife that has that much adhesion. There are sticker R compounds, or longer lasting ultra performance street tires, but there is no other tires that works as well as the RA1 for driving to and from the track. Plus they keep grip all the way down to the cords, their performance isn't limited to the first 2/32's of tread like many tires.

i run yoko avs es 100's and i love them .they do get a littel scetchy in wet weather and are a littel noisey but ther a performance tire.i autocross my 510 and ther really good.the tred life is kind of short(being soft compound)but it's all in how hard you push your tires,i push mine frigen hard and ther wearing prety good.i got a set for $660 new.

do you want a tire you can push hard or just a a tire that looks good?thats the question you have to ask.ther are tires that look like performance tires but dont act the same and last longer.you cant push them as hard but if your not raceing they should do just fine

I run 15" Firestone Insignias. Theyre cheap, good on rain and snow, and have a treadwear rating of 460. They're just swell for grandpa's Avalon but I really need to upgrade.

Awesome post! I have the RA1 on the back, have 2deg negative camber, and am eating the inside shoulder alive! But you know what I have the fastest cornering, most tossable car of anybody I know, and if you knew the people's cars I'm including in that list, that would be impressive. It's not just tires though. There's thousands invested into the suspension, both by me and also the previous owner. But as Q45tech has pointed out, you can transform a car, just by changing the tires.

The rest of you guys DO understand that a tire company will build a tire for just about every market, and price point. "service is on par with the pay"and if you buy cheap tires, expect cheap tires.

wow for 711's for $100 each is pretty expensive. I got the Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712 tires for $105 and lifetime warranty if the tire blows which it hasn't done yet. In dry weather the grip is excellent and in wet...well lets just say high-grip tires + wet surface = tailslide but nothing a little counter-steer wont cure.

Sorry about your bad experience with the 711's

I had a set of Kumho's on my 240 when I first got the car and they sucked. I don't even remember what kind they were. I put on Falken Azenis and they rock. Even when it's wet they stick! I know the tread pattern would suggest otherwise, but trust me...even when trying to drift in my SR powered S14, the tires stick really well. I get better grip on the Falkens on the S14 than I do on the all weather michelins on my FWD 200SX.

I've had the Azenis for about a year or more and the tread is about gone. Don't know if that's because its a sticky tire or because I keep drifting on them. Probably a little of both.

I recommend the Azenis.
