I liked being able to know which engine is in which car in the current scheme. Guess that's gone.

It will also be a little weird to have to "convert" the names. So a QX80 is the same as a QX56? (Can I really get that with an 8.0 liter engine?? :bigthumb: Not if the numbers don't refer to the engines anymore.)

I guess it will make sense if they were to really changing the models, though. Since the G is going away, and being replaced by "an all-new premium sports sedan" they will call the Q50, then it makes sense for that model.

Quite an interesting change of events. The G37 sedan changes to the G50 and the G37 coupe will change to the G60.

Im extremely pissed by this marketing scheme. The "G" saved Infiniti and now they want to kill the name that they been building up. I say all nissan/Infiniti community should petition the new marketing scheme, if they decide to call those names in Hong Kong then so be it but come on!! not here in the U.S. To me its like the equivalent of Nissan dropping the Z name for a Q. I myself think i have the right to be upset (coming from an owner of 3 infinti's and one Z)

Some one should start a petition and send it to Infiniti themselves.

Not too surprising given that BMW is changing their nomenclature from 1-3-5 to 2-4-6 series. Still a bit weird to go in a completely different direction. This means farewell to engine displacement badges, right?...

Cobra this doesn't mean you have to give in. I'm a firm believer if its not broke don't fix it! so i believe we as a community should have a voice in this matter. This is what i sent them and i believe our letters and numbers should mean something not just be there.

This is what i sent infiniti

Hi I am sending this message to whom it may concern. I am an Infiniti/Nissan loyalist and customer who is concerned with the direction of how Infiniti will start naming their future models Q and QX. I believe the way it is now is the way it should be. Me and my family own nothing but Infiniti and Nissan products. We have a G, Q, and J and also a Nissan Z. we have bought nothing but Nissan's and Infiniti's and I always supported and recommend your new product's to friends and family because of the way they feel, drive and how they are reliable compared to lets say a BMW. Now back to the main issue, dropping the nameplate "G" from the Infiniti line is a big giant marketing mistake. The "G" name has a following in the Nissan and Infiniti community you will essentially be dropping the name that turned Infiniti to what it has become today. Every time you think of Infiniti you think G (and now M since this name plate is starting to get it's own following just like the G first did) because that is the bread and butter of our line. Dropping the name will cost you recognition. For example i know many people who don't know much about the Infiniti brand but they at least do know at least the model "G"and how good the cars are. I as a Infiniti customer will lose interest in the brand if this marketing plan were to happen. You know how confusing its going to be for us owners to identify our cars to other people who don't know much of the brand? we are gonna be saying I have an infiniti Q50 and they are going to be saying which Q is that and how it looks like? and don't get me started on the QX line. QX is known for it being the big SUV not a crossover. I will leave it at this, what if Nissan dropped the Z name? see how many people will get upset. I am not the only one who is considering this a mistake, the whole community is rambling about how big of a mistake this is. Give it a couple days you will get more messages about this. I don't want our cars to have pointless numbers and letters like some other manufactures out there. I always like our nomenclature . (G37 = G with 3.7L engine, M56 = M with 5.6 L and so on...). Please hear out your customers out on this (Nissan is very good at keeping tabs on the loyalist community so why shouldn't Infiniti do the same, especially if this can prevent a downfall in recognition to the Infiniti brand)

Not a fan of the new naming strategy...Wish they would just come out with a G40something...or a FI V6.

i complained on their offical facebook page along with 1000s of other people. the worst part to me is now a "G" will be discontinued and thus kill resell value of our cars. The only way this new naming convention will fly well is if in fact the new sedan is different from the current G in major ways. They basically reinvited the M in 2011, but kept the M name, i wouldnt of minded if they changed the 2011 M to a Q because it was basically a completely different car. So my expectations for the Q50 are very high, if they think the G warrants a new name.

Also ive read its a former Audi CEO thats leading the name change... all their sedans are A... On the facebook page infiniti stated that the engine size will be on the fender simular to Audi, with "AWD" or "hybrid" on the trunk with the Q50 badge. IDK it could look nice that way, but i like the immediate reconition of "g37x". just from that you know i have a 3.7l and AWD without even seeing my car. The only thing i think could be improved is futher seperating the coupe and sedan in reconition by nonmenclature. maybe "G37C" or "G37Cs" or "G37Cx" or "G37Cxs". Or finally make the coupe actually faster than the sedan with a bigger engine in the coupe say "G40" or "G40S" or "G40x" or "G40xS" and you know automaticly they have a coupe.

we want a Infiniti not an Audi... if i wanted an audi i would of got one... smh...

I think part of the reason I don't like this, is that the Q doesn't mean anything. It adds no information to the name of the car.

It may as well not even be in the car model name, since every Infiniti will be a Q-something. It's superfluous. Just call it the Infiniti 50 or 60 or whatever, and get rid of the Q altogether. Call the SUV/crossover line X50 or X60, etc.

(For that matter, then why not make them all I-somethings? At least "I" could stand for Infiniti. Q in the model name will mean..., uh, well, er...nothing.)

Since getting my Infiniti, I thought of my car model as a "G" (with other important info in the rest of the model name). Even now, when you go on the Infiniti website, they list the car models by the letters; the numbers aren't even given in the headers. And look at the ad on the right side of this web page! (Yes, I know it doesn't show on your computer). It advertises an "Infiniti G sedan" with a button to "build your G."

They've forgotten that the model is named by the letter(s).

I don't think it will kill the resale value any more than a redesigned G model would. Age, miles, and condition are what kills resale value. If you are planning on selling it ever, the sooner you do the better. It will never be worth as much as it is now.

This is one of those ideas when theres nothing todo at the office and need to come up with something so they pull the idea from the hat and run with it.
This is like honda renaming 2013 civics as NSX's.
It makes no sense and/or never should be thought about. Sales of infinitis are on the rise the last 4 years (discussion with a 20 year infinti salesman when i when to test drive the G37.) and then this. From the amount of outrage. I dont think it will fully be put into production.

RULE NUMERO UNO. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS FREAKING RIGHT!!!!
