No Flaming, the engine is an Sr20det redtop!!! Alright, bought the car a while ago and was told that the timing needed to be done when i took off the valve cover and set it at Top Dead Center everything seemed to be lined up?? the pulleys was set at the yellow mark, and the intake and exaust cams were set at 10 and 12, only prob is that it seems to be a tooth off? here are some pics...lines up with the yellow...Intake is at 10 o lock like it should beand heres the exaust one, seems to be a tooth off...its at 12 o clock like it should be exept the black notch is one over I was wondering if you think it'd be ok to run it like this?? i was told its alright and that when i have it running to just move the distributer/ignition timing till she runs smooth... bottom question isDo you think it'd be ok like this. thanks for the info.

What i dont understand is if the exhaust cam is off by a tooth, why is that ok to run?

zip tie the chain in place on the intake came given everything else is lined up 100% and pull the chain off the exhaust cam and rotate it one tooth clockwise. Then chain back on, double check everything. Crank the engine by hand to make sure nothing hits. Then you should be fine.

Assuming you added oil etc, fire it up.

You need to keep rotating the crank until you see both black teeth. It usually takes couple complete turn form the crank to achieve this.

As safe measure, especially something like this, I would make 100% sure it was right before hand. That's just me though, and Im pretty sure I have slight OCD

OCD is valuable in situations like these.
