I guess you could lump me in with the rest of everyone. The sliding rear glass was also a selling point for me but when I saw 4runners of the same year for $2,000-$3,000 more and with more mileage I decided to go with the pathfinder. As for looks, I've always liked both although I agree the 4runner looks a bit taller and maybe a bit narrower as well.Innovazn wrote:a buddy of mine used to own one. To be honest, the only selling point for me would be the hatch glass that goes down. Other then that I've grown quite fond of the R50's design handling power and appearance. From what i know the R50's have more power... 4 runner IMO looks "tall" ? I dont know.. personal preference.
I originally shopped for one seeing as i grew up sitting in the back seat of one... i believe cargo room 4runner wins. and again.. the only thing that sells for me would be the dropdown hatch glass

I've only been In one (early 00's 4runner) once and even with leather and all options the interior is just cheap and dated looking. And the outside just reminds me of a cow; ugly. Also its not nearly as powerful with 183 hp and 217 torques (just looking at specs). I get compliments alot about the Pathfinder, so I'm more than happy with what I have now.
Why do you guys like the drop down hatch glass? I think the Suburbans from the 80's had those too, I always thought it was just a gimick.
I've actually come to like the hatch glass, especially when camping when I keep my coolers in the back. Unlock the glass, then close it so it doesn't lock. Every time I need something, just flip it open and grab what I need, and close it gently so bugs / rain / leaves stay out. Quick and easy. I imagine with the 4runner hatch glass you (a) need keys and (b) have to wait for the motor to open/close.Chris.m wrote:Why do you guys like the drop down hatch glass? to me its cuz i have a dog... and sometimes when people come up behind you and do stupid s***...you want to roll the window down and show that you have a big pitbull in the back... they generally stop what their doing and drive normally after.
if i hadn't found my current pathy, i was heavily considering getting an '05-newer Xterra. i didn't want the VG33 R50 because i really wanted the VQ35 engine. the VQ35 is one of the best engines that Nissan has made and ranked as 10 best for several years. i've always had love for the older VG engines (i used to own a N/A Z32 and plan to get Z32 TT sometime down the road), but was definitely disappointed at the power that the VG33 made, stock. that's why if i couldn't find a VQ pathy, i planned to get an '05-newer Xterra since it carried the VQ40 and had the power that i was looking for.Pathy415 wrote:Actually, now that you bring up the Xterra. That would def be another consideration. I remember sitting in one, it was like theater seating, the rear seats were a bit higher then the fronts.
Yeah, I'm still pretty shocked at the price difference between the two vehicles. Even 4runners of the same year having 50,000-75,000 more miles they still command a premium over the Pathfinders.ganesh21 wrote:I was looking to buy a 2003 4Runner prior to picking up the pathfinder. They was a 6k difference in price between an 2001 pathfinder and 2002 4Runner. I just save the my money and get the 2001 pathfinder. Great Vehicle.
