My friend has a set of lugnuts that are this small.

Any reason I should invest in a set of tuner lugs like these? (longer lugnuts)

Edit- To clarify I need new lugnuts to go with my new wheel studs and I wanted the top set of lugnuts. I already have a set currently like the bottom pic. Any reason I shouldn't get the 1st set?

Other than the studs getting rusty, no.

I recommend Muteki Lug nuts. $50, acorn style, quality lug nuts. The only reason you'd need open ended lug nuts is if you were using extended studs

i like running open lugs to prevent the lugs from rusting to the studs i like to throw a little anti seize on the lugs too. just a thought and the longer lugs add more threads to hold on tighter. ive never seen a lug nut strip its threads out under pressure but you never know.

Usually you are better with an enclosed lugnut so the studs aren't exposed to the elements and rust.

Be careful using anti-seize on them (go easy on the torque after that). Lubricating the joint results in a higher clamp load/tension in the stud at the same torque, so you could end up stretching or breaking it.

Ohh good point I never really thought of that. See I've always had different results with closed and open. Closed ones tend to rust more for me. Coukd be I'm in muggy humid florida but I've always just had better luck with open ended lugs. The closed ones tend to hold moisture and stuff for me
