I'm having a heck of a time finding the stock active rear bar for my Q, so I was thinking of having Saner make me a 22mm bar with adjustable ends and balljoint-type links. Their cost is around $185, I think, but maybe we can get it down with a big order.

What the hell!!! sure!

Would they be able to design it to use the factory end links too?? I dont care too much, but im sure other members on here would prefer to use the factory bushings....

What I would have them do is make it to use FRONT factory links, so the control arm end would be the same as stock, but the sway bar end would be balljoint.

ok I see how that would work, but wouldnt you think that when you put the wheels down (or when you jack the car up, thus wheels go down) youd put unnecessary stress on that ball joint or even bend the sway bar????

Nah - they work fine in the front so they will work fine in the rear. Some cars (even some Nissans) have the balljoint ends on the rear from the factory. Besides, the front is heavier than the rear & puts more stress on the links.

Balljoints ? ...as in Heim joints?

Well, you could use those, but I was thinking more of the rubber-booted kinds like Nissan uses on FRONT swaybar end links.

Not I.

Paid $20 for an Active bar, plus another $20 for poly bushings.

Handful of washers and a day of testing and the Q is a happy beast.

I agree. I am happy with AZhitman's old bar and new mounts and bushings, A $35.00 investment

If I could score an active rear bar for $25 I would be set. For some reason, I can't find one. Whenever I call junkyards on car-part.com, they tell me they have it in stock and then tell me later that they don't. I'm getting desparate here!

22mm is the ideal thickness with the t or a front bar. 24mm (Stillen) is a little tail happy.

Let's do it!

They all have a front bar, and they're all the same.

20mm with poly bushings is plenty tail-happy, I can't imagine driving a Q with MORE rear roll resistance.

Not true! The front sway bars in the t and a models are 1mm less in diameter.

Been hanging out on the G35C and 240SX Forums too long?

You are ALMOST right (closer than I was).

Active and HICAS-equipped cars have a 1mm smaller front bar than do non-HICAS Touring and Standard Q45's.

In other words, not ALL Touring models have the smaller front bar, as not all Touring models had HICAS. Mine has the larger front bar, same as a standard Q.

People don't understand that oem front bars are made way too stiff to add to understeer by overloading the already overloaded front tires. Reducing the front understeer is accomplished by reducing the front bar or adding a rear bar or a combination of the two.

Any factory design will still have understeer to satisfy wet safety requirements when the rear friction is 1/3 of dry friction........in case someone decides to accelerate in rain and the rear toes out or just goes to zero toe.

Why BMW now has active [variable] rear sway bars tied to windshield wiper speed [rain sense wipers]...........to fix the problem while maintaining extra rear stiffness in dry conditions.

In the wet 20mm might be more ideal than 22mm [good in dry] with proper soft FAST WEARING tires.

Remember solid urethane vs rubber acts like a 1-2mm stiffer rear bar.

Thanks for correcting my misconception. Did not realize the smaller bar was limited to only the HICAS touring models. I don't think Dennis does, either.

I have 24mm rear stock front all w/ urathane. And am more than happy the way it handles Not nearly as tail happy as my mustang was.

My rear does not fly out unless i want it to
