I figured this would be the best place to get some help on this topic.

I've been looking at this '95 S14 in my area with a built SR20 motor. It has a salvage title, but is absolutely gorgeous. Exterior and interior are fully stock and mint, and the motor, as far as I can tell, was done right. The owner is honest and straightforward, and a really nice guy.

However, during a test drive after a few quick pulls, it blew a coilpack. He said it was a minor problem and apologized, and he'd fix it that day.

Just an fyi, I'd be using this as my Daily Driver. Aside from the above issue, I was also concerned about insurance. He told me he has liability on it, but he called his insurance and when he gave them the vin they didn't even mention that it was salvage and they said he could have gotten full coverage. Does this sound right? If so, could it be because of the current great condidion?

Anyway, please help me out in this decision!

He's asking 8k, however I would be trading my '99 Integra 4dr LS + 1k for it.

Like I said he's pretty nice and is working a deal with me if I decide to.

I wouldn't trade a good daily for a S14. You get better mileage on the teg. But if that's not an issue & it's salvaged due to theft, go for it.

Plus dailying a boosted engine isn't fun when your s*** blows. Daily drivers are supposed to be reliable & with a boosted engine, you're gamb|ing on it's reliability. If there was some way to get both cars, you'd be straight. Dailying the teg while using the S14 as a weekend car.

^^^Truth. Ain't no way in hell I'd daily an SR swapped car of questionable history with a salvage title. At least, not while I have a job that needs going to. Seems like a decent car, but I prefer to play it safe.

Will the guy accept payments with a big payment? Probably not, huh?

the trade situation isnt a bad deal..

but having this as a daily could be a problem.. major PITA

but it all comes down to the reason behind the salvage title... carfax?

Carfax is an OK tool but dont trust it for final word. If I were you I would take the car to a good car repair place and have them do the once over to see what happened. I've been burned by carfax more times than i've seen that damn fox.

Personally i would never buy a car modded so much, maybe if it were stock form, but even then i would have to be in a pinch.
