If nissan decided to make it up to the US market and offer a Sil-Eighty here in the USA would you buy it? Lets say its much like the Sil-Eighty nissan sold a few hundred of, but with a little modern twist. And its only sold here in the USA, as kindof an apology for no Skyline and the non turbo 240sx.

SR20VET engine, 6 speed trans, LSD and drifting suspension stock, no heavy features like air conditioning.

This would be a true Nissan, nothing but bare-essentials and a totally a-whooping sportcar with the classic styling of the sil-eighty and it comes in at about 20 grand. Yeah it'd have a cheap plastic interior, yeah it would probably be noisy on the highway, yeah it will be the funnest new car to truley drive.

Nissan wouldnt have to do a whole lot of research much on how to build a 180sx, with R and D costs down and by not spending anything on advertising this car (word of mouth and magazines would have it covered) 20k would be a reasonable sticker price, if not less.

This car would be an insurance company nightmare, so much power in a lightweight chassis and people trying to drift. LOL i love it! not to mention all the SR20 parts and tuning people would do to it.

The only question would be, who would buy a 350z when this 2500 pound track-monster S13 is outperforming it at every corner and getting better gas mileage on the highway? (just imagine the crusing economy with the variable cam timing and 6 speed trans)

Only problem is, in this day and age it would have to have all these air bags and catalytic converters to pass all the regulatory BS and be a super-duper low emissions vehicle. There goes that R&D budget.

SR20VET is transvers and will not fit into a RWD platform :)

I would love for it to happen but it wont, unless a 3rd party company wants to take up the task, in which case the car wont be cheap.

doh! the side mirror rumor is no more! Thanks for that nice glass shot.

I'm sure they could manage to make a RWD SR20VET, i wouldn't put it past them.

I thought they had a RWD SR20VET, i mean, thats what the S15 SR is. besides, the SR is dead, so it would be some kind of QR.

Nissan wouldnt make a car like that. Too much for R&D and facilities. Also, why would nissan make a $20-25k car that directly competes with not only the Z but the SE-R. heres how i figure this: the car wouldnt be marketed towards the enthusiast. it would be marketed towards the youth. the Z is an enthusiast car. but if it performs so well for less money, the Z would suffer. and also, a younger person might see a 2dr coupe as more sporty than a 4dr mini-sedan. bam, now the Z will lose some of its sales because you can get a car that performs almost as well, but for less, and its more sportier than the SE-R towards the youth. this is one reason the SR wasnt stuck in the 240. a $20k car that is a direct attack on the NA version of nissan's flagship performance car. it will be argued till we all die or nissan does. but the point is, it wont happen anytime soon. and if it does, i'll buy you guys all drinks.

NISSAN NEVER MADE THE SIL-EIGHTY! THIS HAS BEEN PROVEN MANY TIMES OVER..... SO THERE IS NO WAY NISSAN WOULD BRING OVER A SIL-EIGHTY AND THERE IS NO FACTORY SIL-EIGHTY.

NO IT WASN'T..... IT WAS A AUTO DEALERSHIP NAMED KIDHEART THAT CORNERED THE MARKET AND SAW WHAT THE GROWING TREND WAS. NISSAN HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, THATS WHY EVERYONE WHO PURCHASED THE CARS HAD TO UNDERSTNAD THAT THERE WAS NO WARRANTY OFFERED ON THOSE CARS BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP VOIDED THEM WITH THE CONVERSIONS.

good luck finding them. if you do happen to track down a pair, odds are they're going to be attached to the car.

the car isnt anything special outside wise. the wheels are kouki wheels, or type-x wheels like people call them. the wing is the type-x wing, and the tails are just the kouki tails with a sileighty plate. the front is just an areo bumper from the silvia with a gt-r style grill. its nothing that cant be done. the back facia and the rear 1/4 windows will be the hardest part to track down. that and the engine modes.

2001+ Xtrails come with a transverse AWD SR20VET in japan

a SR20VET and a SR20DET with variable valve timing are NOT the same. The V is for VVL or Variable Valve Lift. And again, the SR20VET was never offered in longblock RWD form.
