Let's say Fram Oil Filters because I know their numbers. My car calls for a #6607 which is rather small and I was wondering if using a #7317(Longer) which has the same threads would have any benifit? Cold Starts/less tapping.

Larger filter will have no impact on cold start. If you are worried about cold start lubrication you need to look at oil viscosity. However I would suggest that you only make a change if you have a genuine issue, i.e. severe cold weather, rather than a perceived issue.

Your car has no need for extra filtration capability so there will be no noticable benefit. Chances are that the cost of that little bit of extra oil you need to add will negate the value of having more filter surface area.

I use the bosch oil filter on my car and it's the longer version (bosch doesn't make the normal length one). The bosch 3323 filter is listed as the propper one for the 2.5 and while it may not help with anything it couldn't hurt. Plus since the car calls for 4-7/8qt of oil the extra filter length means i can just use 5qt and not try and measure out that 1/8.

All you Engineers can join me in unison...in nominal operating conditions, sure you'll clean up the fuel better, but not good for cold weather usage, Chemists join in....and really the idea is to lubricate, period. We have engines that run at high compressions that undergo a good amount of strain especially if you live in the city...now that being said, a good air filter is more key...keep the crap out from the air...does a more restrictive air filter hurt performancem yeah but, increase enigne life yes. These cars are designed to operate like a normal person would operate them, just at least adhere to the manual...although I like synthetic, and change every 5K instead...its about a wash as far as trade-off on price and don't forget that all so important piece of mind...
