Depsite owning my m45 for nearly 3 month now i just finished a excruciating professional certifcaton exam that limited the time i had to spend on my car.

Therefore this weekend i'm just getting around to tinting my car. My options are to go to one of the shops in the area. However being as i'm new to the area i raelly dont know what is good and what is bad, so I'm taking a leap of faith by spending $200 on window tint based on if i like the look of his business.

The other option would be to by the precut tint for $50, and try to tackle it myslef. I have never put on tint and i'm worried that i would do a terrible job. However i have had tint put on my previous cars by pros and watching them it really looked like a cake walk.

I guess my question is would u recommend trying this myself or just biting the bullet on the $200. Also anyone with some experience in this, any form of advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

$200 is not bad for tint--that's about standard. Plus, for $200 (assuming you are doing the entire car, minus the front windshield), you are probably looking at either dye film or metallic film, or a hybrid. You will want to stay away from the metallic film as there's a chance it will interfere with your radio (also cell phone reception, gps, etc).

That being said, if you want good tint, you will want to go with ceramic tint, though that will cost you anywhere from $400-$500.

Just make sure they use quality tint. I would not suggest buying the precut tint, that just sounds like a joke to me.

I dont get it...y would precut tint be so outrageous? I think the product is fine...what i dont trust is my ability to install it.

Do it yourself tinting is not easy at all. Getting it just right involves a lot of effort and pain and it is a lot easier to let a professional with experience get it done right.

If you make a mistake, then removing it is a pain too ...

All in all, paying for an installer to do it right is best.

i have removed tint before (guy at police station wanted $80 for removal inaddtion to the $160 fine) it wasnt too hard.

But your right I should probably just let someone else do it.

It looks easy now but it takes years of experience and technique to be really good at!! Leave it too the pros....like they said you get a warranty....with precut all you get is a lost $50....cause believe me you cannot do it right the very first time...i am trying to save you some money and heartache

PLEASE BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY THIS.

i like doing everything to my car myself and would never let anyones word like "that is hard, or dont do it" stop me from doing anything, and from that i learned to do everything on my own

BUTTTTT with tint, i went ahead to and tried. i tried on the tail lights first because if you mess up, its easy to remove, and let me tell you. ITS A ***** just putting them on tail lights.

this is something you should leave to a professional.

I agree! Saving $150 could look really bad on a 20k car. It is worth having done...just ask local people where they got their tint if it looks good, and ask how much they paid. If they are happy get it done. My .02KTW
