I acquired this turbo from a friend. It is a brand spankin new garrett T04E12.I have never heard of this turbo before. I did some research on it and it appears it was for an isuzu diesel. It is a huge turbo. If i do my math right would this turbo work or is it way to big. Would i have slow boost? I have a manifold and it is a direct bolt up to it. The numbers are AR 50 and .84 on the exhaust side.

whats your horsepower goals. If you shooting for 250-300 horsepower then you should get something else. If you are going for big numbers it looks like it will work fine.

Measure the compressor and turbine wheels. If you remove the housings you can check the major diameter of each. The monir diameter can be measured without removing it. The minor will probably tell us a lot more about what turbo it might be, but having both is a good idea. Once we determine which compressor and turbine wheels you actually have, we can give you a better assessment of how it will perform.

I am currently running the TO4E in 60 trim with a .81 AR ex housing. I get 4-5 psi of boost by 4000 rpm and full song by 4500-4700 depending. I mad 498 whp with this exact turbo at 28 psi on my RB20 a few years ago. Of course that was on almost straight alcohol.

It'll be laggy, but its still very fun.

thats actually a really good turbo all you need to do is change the turbine housing to a .63 and your set, by the looks it appears to be a stage 3 turbine wheel so thats the housing you would need.

Big? I consider a 50 Trim T04E to be moderately sized for the KA and has the best matched efficiency to the KA throughout a very broad boost range. Perhaps you would like to elaborate? And how do you know this is a 50 Trim he has anyways?

How are you coming to the conclusion it's a stage 3 turbine wheel? I speculate that you are just guessing. I don't think the V-band discharge is available in a T3 turbine housing. I don't recall seeing one in my Turbonetics or Garrett Catalogs. Stage 3 turbines do not apply to T4 turbines. Turbonetics uses Letter designations for their turbine trims. Garrett uses numbers(not stages). The turbine does appear to be a T4 section. Considering it was made for an Isuzu diesel motor, it's doubtful it's a T3 turbine just based on it'd intended application alone.

Autocross would work actually, I was driving mine around the bussiness district late late and if you can keep her over 4000 rpm, which you should, your pretty much golden. Just watch out for the spool rush. Traction becomes tricky until you get used to rush.

A good BOV is very important. Helps with the lag ALOT and keeps the surge down. You don't want to be slowing down that turbine shaft once it's spinning. LAg is bad at first, but once the wheels are spinning, they stay spinning. Simple physics really, think swapping to and electric fan then using really light flywheel and aluminum DS. Your rotating assembly will have no inertia. Basically the same thing with BIG turbo's.

I'm with Ckwik, a larger turbo and some lag is well worth the power increase and efficiency rating.

One more thing, if thats an SSA mani, it'll snap crackle pop under the weight of a big turbo. Not only that, but make sure the flange is actually a T4 flange, not a T3 with holes for a T4. That will kill your spool.
