i have a single 12" sub 300rms and 600 max. i was looking at an MA audio amp that puts out 800rms x 1 at 2ohm. would the wattage be okay for the subs or is it too much? help me out. thanks.

what configuration is your sub? single voice coil, dual voice coil? wire it to 4 ohms and watch your gains and volume.

the subs are dual 4 ohm. i have currently setup at parallel 2ohm on an orion amp. the orion is not pushing hard enough. its maxed out at 300rms.

Are you looking to buy a new amp for your sub?

This isn't my area of expertise, but if you're set on that MA audio amp, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine, just turn the gain all the way down and watch the volume so you don't blow the sub.

I'm sure PMQ or Audatious or someone else will chime in and give better insight.

I little late, but better then never, right?

Yes that amp will be fine. You have to understand that because an amp has an RMS rating it doesn't mean that it's always putting out that much power. It's just the amount of power that it can put out over an extended period of time without causing internal damage or clipping.

You can change the power output in three ways. The first use is the volume knob on the HU. THe second option is the Gain. The third option is the actual source material.

The third requrires a bit of explanation. When you burn a CD, with nero atleast, you have the option of altering the tracks. One of those options is changing the overall volume. You can increase/decrease it by 100dB. Obviously you should never go above 10dB either way. But anyways, if you raise the level 3dB your amplifier will be required to put out two times the power at every volume level relative to the original recording. The opposite is true for a 3dB decrease(half power)

So, any amp can be safely used with any speaker as long as it is setup properly

thanks PoorManQ45. well i changed my mind about getting the MA audio amp because i gotta rebuild my sr20 turbo or get a better one. but one question. i have the same sub which is 300rms and same amp 300rms and max at 300(thats what i am told). i crank up the volume and when the subs starts to sound just about good the HU and amp shuts off. is it because its maxed out on either units or do i have put the gain way down or what? any clue? thanks.
