Im lookin to upgrade my speakers in my J and was looking at purchasing Infinity Kappa 6x9s for the rear deck and 4x6 plates up front. I was planning on powering the rear with a 75Wx2ch amp and powering the front speakers with my Kenwood headunit that is 23 watts RMS. Anyone have any comments on the kappa speakers and if this setup would sound good or should i go another route.

Get some 100hz Bass Blockers (ask for them by name) for the 4x6's and that would sound great. Kappa's are some of my favorite speakers. By the way, I have a pair of Kappa 6X9's including the box they came in and the unused grills(used for a few weeks in my buddy's old 3000GT VR4, but he sold it). I am trying to get a pair of oversized Kappa 6.5's for my Altima to go with my Infinity Kappa Perfect component system in the front.

Kappa's sound great, what kind of amp would you be using in the rear (brand)?

its just a profile amp that i got from a friend for about 60 bucks. I saw the same one at circuit city for about 90 bucks and thought it was a pretty good deal. The THD is <.1% it has crossovers and some other stuff I dont know much about.

you should be able to fit some bigger speakers up front in the J30 door i would think, maybe not...the bose amp takes up tons of space, and you are removing it, i would think there would be room for something a size up from 4x6...

well thats what i thought too but im not sure how to mount a regular speaker there....because the 4x6 are plate speakers which is like the stock bose...let me know how I would fit in 5x7 or maybe 6.5

lots of hot glue. you might need to make your own brackets/and or mounting points, but you it should all fit.

Just put 4x6 kappa in the front of my S13, they barely fit (do to the bigger magnet) even after i took out the stock amps in the doors... but if i removed the plastic tray i could have prolly fit some 6.5"'s in there except there wouldn't be any weather protection... (i do recomend powering them with something other than the deck though)

Well I know that the mounts in the J30 were made to fit 6.5's in the front and back. You'll have to use a new bracket in the rear if you want to fit 6x9's.

well actually thats wrong. The stock speakers in the rear are 6x9s and that is what fits in there...take a look again. At least in my 93 J.

you're positive those are your stock bose speakers? cause I've seen mine and I'm positive they're 6.5's. Plus my audio sponser has a program for every car make and model which also says that all four are 6.5" speaker mounts.

well...i have replaced them when the popped once and yep they were 6x9s...are you sure they didnt change to 6.5 from 94 and up? Also i dont think anything bigger than 4x6 will fit in the front with that huge magnet from the kappas.

wow, that's strange, I just checked them to see exactly to make sure what size they were and I must've just guessed by the amps mounted underneath that they were 6.5's but if you look directly up then sure enough they're 6x9's. Which is a great relief now cause that's original what I wanted to get for the rears. Sorry for doubting you.

Oh and as for the program my sponser has I must've looked up the I30 by accident cause I just noticed that other post for the speaker sizes and the I has 6.5's all around.

ok...well...im not sure what can fit up front but im planning on putting the infinity kappa 4x6 plate speakers up front. If youre looking to upgrade your audio check ebay as you can get some pretty good prices there.

For me my prices are all wholesale cost. But ebay does have some good deals when you can find them. Just be careful cause if they're pre-used they could have a faulty coil or a loose wire they soldered back into place.
