Hey all, I currently have the 3" Apexi N1 Single Catback exhaust system. I lost significant low end torque on the stock KA and think the piping is too big. Yeah it sounds deeper but its still huge. I'm going to try to turbo the KA next summer and wonder if I should change out the exhaust to smaller piping. I'm aware that there is a rule about turbo piping, as well as NA engines. If the turbo outlet is only 2-2.25" wide, shouldn't the rest of the exhaust be the same? A local shop makes pretty good bended pipe exhaust for like 75 bucks. You can get N1 muffler on ebay for like 40-50 bucks too. I could sell my ApexI 3" and make 200 back. Also, in the meantime I would gain low end back and not lose too much on the high end. What would you guys do?

actually I just looked around at mufflers and most inlets are 2.5", so would it make sense to go through all the work for 2.5" custom piping as opposed to my 3"?

3" is overkill for your setup, go back to 2.5" or keep the exhaust and add a turbo....that'll make up for the lost low end power.

Contrary to what people think, a larger diameter exhaust does not necessarily produce more power. Just like those fools using dual 3" exhaust systems on their stock civics.

not true, larger exhaust piping for a turbo is ideal... you will make more power quicker with 3 inch tubing on a turbo car... keep the 3 inch Erin :)

Well I got confused when I read Maximum Boost by Corky Bell and he had a chart in there relating to this. 3" piping was optimal in upwards of 7-800 HP ranges. I was like WTF. I mean, there is decent KA torque that it doesn't matter so so much, but I dunno, I just want whats best for the car like the rest of us do. Anymore opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

We're dealing with what.. 3 hp? maybe less?

I'd keep it if you want to go turbo..

well yeah but more importantly daily driving low end torque is my main concern.
