since the 3.5 altima uses a vq35 and the 350z/g35's have the vq35hr's, would a swap for the vq35hr work for the qr25?

you wont be able to swap a VQ from any of the Z or G cars (longitudinal motors) into any of our altimas (transverse). This was a commonly discussed topic that was beat to death over on the maxima.org forums since VQ swaps were very popular (VQ30->VQ35). It may be possible with a LOT of work, but you might as well buy a new car. A more realistic swap would be to swap a VQ from a 3.5 Altima to a 2.5 Altima. Of course, though, you have to get the CVT transmission that the 3.5's have (they're different from the 2.5 CVT's).

In the end of a VQ/QR swap it would have been cheaper to buy a 3.5 to start...

Not going to be plug and play thats for sure.Lots of work. aint going to be cheap, but if you find a cheap mecanic or you can DIY and have access to another car while this is being done, then I say DO IT.
