I'm looking to put 18" rims on my car and the ones I like come only in 18x7.5 with 45mm offset. I was wondering if this is wide enough to mount a 245/40/18 tire on. I spoke with 2 different people at discount tire and oddly enough got 2 different answers. From what I've been able to research though the tire should fit as I see people with 20x7.5 rims running 245 width tires. I'd appreciate it if anyone with more experience in this area could give me an answer.

Thnx, Eric.

Yes, you can put a 245 width tire on a 7.5 wide wheel. Normally, you'd want an 8" wide wheel for that tire, but the 7.5 will work.

The question is will the 7.5" +45 wheel with a 245 tire rub on the inside?

Every 245 wide tire I've seen suggests rim width between 8-9.5"... just like thesehttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

I wouldn't run a 245 on a 7.5" wheel, especially if it doesn't suggest it!

The 6th-Gen maxima came stock from the factory with 245-45's on 18x7.5" rims

just checked, you're right... why do think these other tire companies suggest 8-9.5" wheels for 245 tires?

because the side wall is taller. you can put 245 on 7.5 because the profile is 45. I don't think 245/35/18 would work on 7.5. a 245/40/18 on 7.5 is questionable.

The tire will mount on the rim, no question about it, the wider the wheel gets (on 7.5 rim), the more roll the tire will have while cornering. It will kinda give you a wavey, loose feel in the corners. 245 would probably be unnoticable though.

I've been looking at NISMO wheels for my car. Most of them are 18" with 8.5 W, and 45mm offset. Would these wheels fit on the Altima coupe 3.5??

Thanks for the answers to all of you . I guess I'll got with 225/45/18 tires with 245/45 being an alternate option. My first choice was 235/45 but this size is fairly expensive and hard to find so I ended up looking at 245s. I'm trying to stay pretty close to the overall diameter of the original tires but want to improve handling a bit. I don't like how the car performs going through sharp curves (the car feels a bit loose and shakey like what shift_mikey described) and I'm not quite sure if it's the stock tires that are to blame or if it's just the way suspension of the car reacts to the road.

i think its a bit of both...the stock tires are just average at best, I never felt surefooted when hitting corners in the stockies. Also, the ride height of the stock suspension setup affects stability also. That's why the lowering springs + wider tires on aftermarket rims (or even factory rims for that matter) make a huge difference in regards to cornering. Obviously, a full suspenion overhaul would be the ultimate answer, but for the average daily driver, I think they would be perfectly happy with the lowered car and wider tires!

I have 245/35/20's mounted on my 20's and my rims are 7.5 wide. Discount said they wouldn't do it for me too but the dealer did it for me no problem. So yes, it can be done and I have no issues with my wheels/tires.
