I own a 2005 G35 sedan (sport model) and I've been thinking about getting a newer car. After considering everything out there, the car in my price range that I like the most would be a G37. I usually buy used cars about 3 yrs old, so I'd be looking at a 2012. However, I wonder if upgrading would be worth it, since it seems like there aren't many significant differences...maybe a few more horses and a better audio system.

My G35 is still in good shape and runs fine. With 85k miles on it, chances are it won't be needing any major repairs for quite a while yet. From a cost standpoint alone, it probably makes little sense. Any thoughts? Am I missing anything? Has anyone had both generations and how would you compare them? I could also hold onto my G35 for a couple years more and go for a used Q50 at that time.

I traded in my 06 G35 6speed at 171796 miles on 8/31/12 for a 2012 G37S that now has almost 58k miles.
My 06 was going to require a few thousand for brakes, tires, leaking differential seal and a drivers side headlight ballast.

The G37S is far superior with Navigation, backup camera etc.

My $.02 is to start saving $300 to $400 a month in a savings account so when the time comes to get rid of your 2005 you'll be ready.
Don't make a move if there is nothing wrong with your car

Had two 05 sedans, 08 G35X, and now a 04 coupe and 13 G37X
The 05's felt more sporty than the 08+ in my opinion.
08+ more luxury improvements.

Based on the Owner's Manual, you can run REGULAR gas in the 05 sedans but you should not in the 08+ sedans

However, some folks run regular regardless like Telcoman.
But, he is a seasoned driver driving a STICK that does not drive his sport sedan as a sport sedan.
In my opinion, you can possibly get by with regular based on meeting all three of the above criteria.

With that said, depends on what you want out of your driving experience and bank account! :gapteeth:

:welcome: to NICO chuck77!

Our '05 G sedan has been essentially bulletproof. Other than normal fluid and brake maintenance, we've had a seat track replaced, one wheel bearing, and a cam position sensor a few days ago.

If you're happy with your G, I'd keep driving it. The only real complaint we have with the car is that the clear coat is flaking off. A friend's '05 with the metallic navy blue paint had a chunk of it peel off on the hood... so I think Infiniti had some paint quality issues in this era. I've seen this on several black '05 Gs, and I'll admit that I didn't wash and wax this one as regularly as I should. So if you begin to see paint issues developing, it might be good to give it a good wax and dump it now rather than later. Once it starts a repaint is your only real fix.

Thanks guys. I agree with you that the best thing to do is to keep it. After comparing the specs, the newer G's really don't offer anything better (performance isn't any better and I don't care that much about luxury features). Upgrading to another G 'just to have a newer car' wouldn't make any sense. My '05 has been almost perfect for the 8 years I've had it and it still looks almost new (I keep it in the garage). I even like the look of the '05 more than the newer ones - it's a cleaner design. The only problem I've had is the driver's seat sliding mechanism no longer works and it's been stuck in one position for 2 years. I would have gotten around to fixing it by now, except it's stuck in the correct position for me.

SVT, Yes, I've been using regular. Thanks for pointing out the need for premium in the '08+. That in itself is a big reason not to upgrade.

As long as your G35 is holding up and you enjoy driving it, there's no reason to trade up.

The G37 is more refined than the G35. Some people, including me, appreciate the difference. Others miss the G35's raw edge.
