Scan tools are that expensive...

To fix it, you need to diagnose it.

That's cheap compared to the price of my Snap-on scanner.

You're assuming someone would buy this, and use it once for 1 car. Having a set of hardware to plug in and diagnose everything in your car's complicated electrical system takes a lot of work, and a lot of programming. If you don't want to pay for one, pay a shop to scan your car for you.

I would consider it if I purchase another Infiniti and the wife goes for another Nissan.
The four volume paper FSM for my 06 G35 was $300.00 and I found it helpful and worth it.
Having a diaognostic tool like that could pay for itself over time with more than one Nissan product in the family.
