Went and looked at the car today, its a 1990 Na with a 95 TT Swap. B/C of the flywheel ring it needs to be push started and it has a power steering leak that i identified. i plan on building the car basically from ground up but cant decide if this is a good platform to start. Any input would be helpful.

Red flags:
1. "15 to 30 pounds of boost" - wtf? Highly doubt it was ever run on 30psi but even 15 is high if not tuned properly or on anything less than 93 oct.
2. It's been repainted before. Which wouldn't be a bad thing if it weren't for the relatively large chipping paint on the roof. That's a sign to me that the paint job was a cheap one or he doesn't take good care of the car.
3. Looks like the ground is wet in the pics but the car is mostly dry. Was the ground wet when you looked at it? He might be trying to conceal leaks, such as the power steering leak you found.
4. Not sure what he means by the "flywheel ring" that needs to be replaced. Maybe someone else can chime in but I've never heard of that before.
5. NA Swapped cars are always more risky since you are buying someone else's project. There are lots of shortcuts that may have been taken. There are also many unknowns such as motor mileage, Jdm or usdm?, turbo mileage/condition, what seals were replaced, etc. lots can go wrong. I'd compression test it at the very least if you're dead set on buying.

I'd walk away. If you're building a Z from the ground-up, you're better off buying a clean stock tt roller with a bad motor or bad turbos to rebuild. They're out there if you're patient enough to wait.

I agree with everything here^... IDK what "ring" he is talking about either (I think the seller is just very confused). The statement about how much boost its running should have you running for higher ground... The seller is obviously an idiot no way, no how is that car running 30psi so either the seller just has no clue what he is talking about or thinks it would be a better selling point to lie about how much boost its running? Regardless though I highly suggest you put this car past you. Who knows what other nightmares you will find if you buy the car...

Lastly, Welcome to NICO though! If you find another ad your interested in feel free to post it up. :bigthumb:

The ring he's referring to is the ring gear on the flywheel. He didn't shim the starter and it doesn't line up.
