That is absolutly horrible, he should definitly take action against the dealership, whether it be public, legal, or private. There is no excuse for a comment like that, and I think everyone involved should be fired, everyone on the work order, and possibly the service manager.
Now a little anecdote...(althought not as funny as TMSs). My grandfather has a 96 LeSabre that currently has 36k on it. A while back the check engine light pops on, and he takes it to the dealership. They tell him the engine is knocking and that the cam lobes on the cam for the 4 and 6 cylinder are bad. Estimated cost....over 2k for parts and labor.
He then proceeds to take it to the mechanic he has went to for years...15 minutes and the guy comes out and tells him he has to spark plug wires that are burnt up. Total cost...56 dollars.
My grandpa is old school, goes back to the dealership and asks to speak to the service department manager. Shows him both bills and states "if I were ten years younger, your blood would be on the floor and the cops would be taking me out of here for beating the s**t out of you". After a few other choice words he leaves, heads home, and less than two hours later gets a phone call from the head manager of the dealership apologizing, and tells him he will get his diagnosis fee back (85 dollars). My grandfather promptly curses him out and 3 days later receives his check.
I hate going to the dealership.
