This is non-NICO but I'm trying to help someone out. A good friend just showed me his Service Receipt from a large local Ford dealer. He had taken his 2000 Explorer back yesterday for a bad leak after a routine oil change. He has had brake issues for months with the same dealer. Here is exactly what was on the dealer computer after the repair and typed neatly on his receipt, the F-word was spelled correctly, I subbed the symbols:

"CUSTOMER STATES VEHICLE IS LEAKING LARGE AMOUNTS OF OIL.CHECK & ADVISE.(PROBLEM PRESENTED ITSELF AFTER OIL WAS CHANGED)LIABLE TO KILL THIS F*#@ING WASTE OF SKIN."

It's hard to believe how a shop comment like that could get by everyone. And people wonder why we like to work on our own cars!

What would you do if you knew a mechanic or service manager thought so highly of you. This guy is very mellow which makes this even harder to believe. I'd worry about what they might have done to my car! At the least I would go for:

1. Lifetime warranty and service,2. Can the Klown in the shop,3. Written apology from higher up than Regional level.

Have him post the name of the dealership and a scan of the receipt!!!

I'd ask for a private meeting (and record it) with the dealership GM and my attorney ("liable to kill" = assault, Class 6 felony) ASAP.

Somebody needs to be fired - Bad part is, the tech has the customer's address!!!

I'm not sure that he wants to place a scanned copy quite yet. The dealer hasn't got back to him. The whole thing makes his wife pretty nervous about driving the car at all. He doesn't consider the "kill" part all that serious but these are strange times we live in. I'm no legal expert but I always thought that if you printed just the facts, no crime is committed. Would the truth be considered libel / slander / damage to the dealer? In addition his name, the SM's name, and tech's name are also on it. I had to make a copy because I never would have believed it.

Let's just say for those Ford owners living 15 miles south of Sacramento, you might want to reveiw your options next time you need service.

That's a threat. Threat of physical violence = assault.

I'm sure it's just a comment out of frustration made by an extremely stupid individual. Still has to be held accountable.

But my guess is it's a pattern of behavior and attitude that pervades Ford Corporate - Remember, I used to drive a police-package Crown Vic (boom) and I could bore you with the fights I had with those a$$holes about addressing the very serious fuel tank safety issue.

You're correct. Stating a fact is not libel or slander. I don't see how the dealership could ever dispute what's printed on their own reciept. And Hitman's right, that could be easily be considered criminal. I almost guarantee that an arrest would be made if EITHER your friend or his wife feels threatened in any way.

Don't forget to have him mention that he is considering contacting the local media, and a brief letter to Ford Corporate is a must.

The dealership has NO recourse, regardless of his actions. He could theoretically take out a full-page ad in the local paper with a sanitized version of the receipt and they'd have to sit on their thumbs.

He should do nicely, especially given the legal and public opinion implications.

I'm pissed, and it's not even my situation...

I agree with hitman, that's just not right! Something must be done, at the very least a very serious apology and some free service for a few years! That is absurd and should not be happening in the world we live in! If his wife is afriad to drive the car then there are very serious implications coming from that comment, whether the person who wrote it meant it literally or not. I am still in disbelief... that is so horrible!

the ford service guys at the dealership are real brains as well.She had an 89' T bird that kept chewing up front brake rotors. After the third set I went in to talk with them about it(dates could be wrong, it's been a while) here's the gist of the conversation;

Me.How many times have you guys changed the front rotors on this car?

Mech.Uh like three.

Me.This is obviously an inherent flaw, my 72' Opel still has the original rotors, what's the story?

Mech.Yes the rotors are a bad design.

Me.So what your saying is we are going to be seeing a lot of each other until the warrantee expires and then my Mom will be paying you regularly from then on?

Mech.(blank stare)

Me.I have a question, does the 90' do this?

Mech.Yes.

Me.91?

Mech.No.

Me.Really? are the dimensions of the rotors and the bearings the same?

Mech.I'm pretty sure(blank stare)

Me.(waiting for light to off over this guy's head)

Mech.(blank stare continues)

Me.Have you considered that if the two different rotors have the same dimensions they would be interchangeable?

Mech.(stare mutates towards a confused one)

Me.And if the later model one doesn't fail it would be better for everyone involved if you didn't replace the rotors this time with ones you already know are going to fail when you could just use the better ones and never see this car again?

Mech.(facial expression suggests he is honestly trying to follow)

Me.OoooKaaaay, see you in three months.:rolleyes

 speaking from experience as a techin a dealership i can tell youthat all service managers are worried aout image-the best course of action to take against the dealer is to send copies of this message to all regional representatives as well as the superiors of those people-legal action is one way to go however it will be a long uphill battle-these dealers have alot of lawyers and alot of money-use the media for all it is worth this will get more results than a one person fight-but be sure to consult a lawyer to avoid any legal implications as a result of this action-realize that the dealer will probably want to settle this matter in a quiet fashon and try to keep it under some kind of gag tyoe order from the courts-so be sure to do your homework before anythinggood luck!!!:D

That is absolutly horrible, he should definitly take action against the dealership, whether it be public, legal, or private. There is no excuse for a comment like that, and I think everyone involved should be fired, everyone on the work order, and possibly the service manager.

Now a little anecdote...(althought not as funny as TMSs). My grandfather has a 96 LeSabre that currently has 36k on it. A while back the check engine light pops on, and he takes it to the dealership. They tell him the engine is knocking and that the cam lobes on the cam for the 4 and 6 cylinder are bad. Estimated cost....over 2k for parts and labor.

He then proceeds to take it to the mechanic he has went to for years...15 minutes and the guy comes out and tells him he has to spark plug wires that are burnt up. Total cost...56 dollars.

My grandpa is old school, goes back to the dealership and asks to speak to the service department manager. Shows him both bills and states "if I were ten years younger, your blood would be on the floor and the cops would be taking me out of here for beating the s**t out of you". After a few other choice words he leaves, heads home, and less than two hours later gets a phone call from the head manager of the dealership apologizing, and tells him he will get his diagnosis fee back (85 dollars). My grandfather promptly curses him out and 3 days later receives his check.

I hate going to the dealership.

Dear dear Palmy, my post count is low but that isn't indicative of my presence on the site. Hitman is a country white boy mixed with a raghead. He is a modern day lurch to be exact. Your argument is therefore moot. Oh, and damn a German!... :)

You have a good memory, tampon-boy. I am indeed genetically Redneck/Raghead.

However, my apparent "bigotry" is far from that - What you read into it is YOUR deal.

My hope is that your post is in good fun (as was mine). I'll trust that no more name calling occurs, as I am certainly far from bigoted (although I DO have a little Bunker in me :D)

Now gimme back mah damn car, Reee-Po, fore I gawn and fetch mah shootin' arn!
