worried about my charging system. help please

Im really concerned with my charging system. Some reason when i start the car

voltage will sit around 11.7v -12.2v when i give it a little gas itll jump to 14.2 but

when i give it WOT itll drop to 12 and turn off. Then when i drive down the street

to a stop voltage will drop back down to 12 and cut off from 14.2-14.5 . It is

getting really annoying braking and gasin it at the same time.

When i saw this happening I replaced the alternator again with the quest

alternator and a nice optima battery. Any info would be helpful thank you .

check your grounds and the battery cables for corrosion/damage.

thanks ill make sure to check that. i know i added a ground form the alt to the chassis. I also have my battery relocated to the trunk and the actual ground is to the trunk floor. would you think that is the issue?

Sounds like your alternator regulator is crapping out. Verify the grounds in the trunk, but I assume you sanded the grounding point down thru the paint to a good metal surface.

yea i did sand the surface for the ground. the regulator i have no clue because once signs of my alternator started to happen i went out and got another alternator under warranty and it still happens its lame.

it sounds like the bushings in ur alt. are goin out....

mine went out when i was driving home from vacation in southern NC... im located in northern va.. i had to drive hom ein rush hour traffic using the hand brake to stop and revvin it up when i stopped to keep her runnin and had to cut up my front bumper to get air flow bc i couldnt use my e fans... lol

wat motor do u have??? ur best bet would be to pick up a new alt....

I had something similar happen. When I did the Quest alternator swap, the refurbished alternator I bought had a ground fault in it. So it ended up draining my battery every night until I tracked it down to be my brand new alternator. Pissed me off! Traded it in for a "new" "refurbished" alternator and it has been running strong ever since.

lol thats the same thing im doing right now. its so embarassing when the car cuts off and you have to start that thing back up number of times lol. sorry i have an rb25 series II in the s13 coupe .

i hope that is the issue i work at a parts store so this works out

I just finished the swap about a month and a half ago. Im happy besides the charging system and finding a good set of plugs

so i am having the exact same problem as you guys. I have a blacktop sr with a power fc. when i turn the key on, voltage is at 11.7. when i turn start the engine voltage remains at 11.7. when i bump the throttle up to about 2500 rpms the voltage jumps to 14.4-14.7. when i get home the battery remains un charged. new alternator was warrantied out and battery was replaced. no idea whats goin on. DID YOU GUYS EVER FIND THE FIX? please lmk. also when i turn the key off, car remains running for a slight 3 seconds. PLEASE HELP
