Worried about EX35 Comfort!!!!!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Ok so i have had my EX for 2 months now...and overall I LOVE it.....however I am finding that I just cannot get comfortable in the drivers seat. I literally have to adjust my seat every other day.

is this something other people have had issues with?? Maybe the seat is too small maybe the leather is too firm i cant quite understand it.

it always feels like im sliding off the seat, im begining to get a little worried that I purchased a car that I will never be comfortable in.

I am hoping that once I break in the leather all will be fine.....any comments???

I have zero issues. The vehicle is rather comfortable compared to the other three vehicles I drive on a regular bases.

Many of the Nissan/Infiniti owners with 10+ way adjustable seats run into issues finding the right combination.

I don't mean to be mean, but I personally think this has more to do with your inability to correctly adjust the seat, than it has with the seat itself.

I could be wrong. I haven't personally sat in an EX, but my G coupe seats should be far less comfortable and I don't have any issues.

Sorry, but I find the seats extremely comfortable. I've owned Audi's and Volvo's and the Infiniti seats rank right up there.

On a 6-hr drive shortly after I bought the car, I arrived feeling like I'd only been in the car a half-hour!

Another point on the graph, I guess.

Cheers,David

Me, I love the seats. I think they're wonderful! The headrests...not so much. I can't find a comfortable position on them at all.

i had trouble too. i soon made ht adj first, and memorized it . foward and back, then back tilt. i just kept adjusting and locking the memory. eventually i got it right. i am 5 ft 9 inches and wt is 220 and its not all solid muscle. i also found when i adjusted the seat on the hi side, the visability was better all around...i use the cameras but i still check the old fashion way. also my arw can rest on the window sill better and much more comfortable. good luck, nick

ps if your butt hurts you have the seat set so your body wieght is on your butt only. you must seat up the seat so your wt. is evenly distrbuted and driving controls are easily reached and you have visablity as well

I am 6 feet 4 inches, about 230 and find the EX driver's seat to be very comfortable.

I just drove a two and a half hour one way trip this weekend and found the seats to be very comfortable. Very supportive and didn't feel tired at all.

Here's some tips:

-Adjust seat horizontal distance such that when you fully depress any pedal that you are not stretching your leg. There should still be an angle in your ankle and knee when fully depressing a pedal. If your leg is too straight then you are too far.

-Adjust seat height such that your knees are almost (but not completely) parallel to the floor.

-Adjust seat recliner such that when you turn the wheel your back is not lifting off it. And such that your shoulder blades are supported when you are not turning.

-Adjust steering wheel height and distance such that your arms are supported by the arm rest and not hanging.

-Adjust bottom seat angle such that your knees are supported just enough but not pushing the underside of your thigh.

-lumbar support is extra, dont overdo it though, it should support your lower back and not push it too much forward. Just enough that you don't "sink" into your seat.

When you are all setup you might find this position a little too close to the wheel for comfort. I was too when I learned of this proper position as when I just started driving I would assume the position of comfort was to be as far as possible from the wheel and as laid back as possible. This was wrong off course because it required more effort just to turn the wheel and depress the pedals. Remember the more effort you put into driving the more tired you will feel. There should be as little movement as possible when driving.

Just look at race car drivers and notice how close they are to the wheel, fairly upright driving position and looking like a scared student driver. Yes its the corect way of driving.

TOTALLY AGREE with bucca1! I love the cosy seat but I just can't find the right position for the head rest. -- It always feels like my head was tilted towards the front in discomfort!

I have the same complaint about the head rest. I've read that this is a problem with a lot of new cars due to stricter safety rules for how far the head restraint can be from your head; so now it's safer, but uncomfortable for some people. Some things I tried:1. using the headrest from the rear seat: doesn't fit; the rod spacing is different2. put the headrest on backwards: this fixes the too-far-forward problem, but then it's angled too far back (and is probably a lot less safe)3. recline the seat more: this brings the headrest back some, but it's not as comfortable for the rest of my body and feels unsafe, and the steering wheel doesn't telescope out far enough4. put a cushion behind my back or neck to bring my head forward: I couldn't find one that was comfortable and that fit well in the seat. (I'm thinking that the seat was designed for heavier people who have more built-in padding in their back).5. using the headrest from my 2000 Nissan Sentra: this fits (though doesn't lock in place completely). It feels a little better since the bottom part doesn't stick out as much. It's still tilted forward though, so the top part is still too far forward.

One idea I read was to have a fabrication shop bend the rods back a little. Or have an upholstery shop take the leather off the headrest, remove some foam from it, and put the leather back on. I'm hesitant to try this without knowing how it'll feel first.

For Honda Accords, I read that using a headrest from an older model (2007) is more comfortable. Does anyone know of any Infiniti headrests from older/different models that will fit the EX35 and are thinner?

My EX seats feel like I'm sitting in a recliner. Now having said that the G35 seats and the EX luxe style seats are very similiar and I found those seats not to be as comfortable as the more supple leather on Luxe Elite seats.

I drive often from Washington, DC to Baltimore, MD for work which is about an hour one-way. On these trips, my right leg starts to fall asleep, as if it's not getting the proper blood circulation and I have to raise my leg and bend my knee just to shake it off. It's a dull pain that goes right up to my backside.

For me I think it's due to the seat padding underneath my right hamstring. The rest of the seat is real comfortable. But I've adjusted my seat many times and just when I think that I've got it right, my leg feels strained again.

It wasn't a deal breaker when I took my overnight test drive and then bought the car. I'm just going to deal with it 'cause I love everything else about this car. One thing that I do that helps is take my wallet out of my back pocket so I don't have to sit on it for long trips. I just keep it in the door handle depression.

Hey Mike! Now I know exactly where to reach for the next time I see you at a stop light with the window rolled down!

Just kidding. Glad to hear you're still lovin' the car. I feel the same way every time I drive it. Now If I could only get the wiper washer from spraying over the roof and on to my windshield...

There are truly so many ways the seat can be adjusted, it may take some time to find the perfect setting for you. In my Armada I found the perfect positioning, and of course I saved it. I never deviate from that setting. Now, in my Murano, I have my saved setting, but sometimes (for whatever reason) I like to have the seat reclined just a little further back, so I will do that, but it took me a good two weeks of fiddling with the settings on both vehicles before I found perfection.

I think it is a case of too many options, you find something you think is almost perfect, and then you try to perfect it, but you almost make it worse than it was before. GOOD LUCK, and glad to have you as a member of NICOclub!

What's up Stickyfingaz! I'd try to outrun you in that situation but I would guess our rides would be evenly matched.

I haven't seen the wiper washer issue with my EX. That sucks if they already tried to fix it and it still has the problem. I'll be taking mine in sometime this week. They finally got my new steering wheel in out of backorder. They're replacing the one I got now which had a cosmetic scratch when I bought it.

I'm already at about 3500 miles so I may get my first scheduled maintenance done as well, maybe also get my door locks set to the #2 setting.

Hey if I don't see you around before Thanksgiving, have a great trip back home!

Try a different distance from the pedals/wheel most cases thats what causes you to feel uncomfortable. I think the EX is extremely comfortable, but then again I think the Elise is comfortable too.

I'm going to suggest something regarding the windscreen washers missing your windscreen. However, it's below freezing outside tonight so I'm not actually going to venture out and try it myself for you!

One of my cars 5 or 6 years ago had the same problem when I got it, if you take a pin, needle or paperclip (safety pin or just something small and pointy) and put it in the hole where the water jets out, you can possibly move the jet head and angle it down a tad so it does hit your windscreen. It may not work, but it has on prior vehicles I've owned.

Hope that helps!

On the getting comfy front, this is the comfiest car I've driven. I thought my Murano would be hard to beat, but the EX is just perfect. I'm 6'6" and can sit in that drivers seat for 5 or 6 hour stints no problem.

in 06 I leased an FX 35 and after my first 15 mile trip I realized I couldn't get comfortable in it and the dealer told me tough luck. So I had to drive that uncomfortable mess for 2 years. HATED it! I just test drove an EX last night and I could feel the same issue... with long legs your right knees lean on the console, if you put the seat back far enough, you can't comfortably reach the wheel, and the side bolsters cause my shoulders to roll forward too much... What a pain. I wish there was a way to make the wheel come back further...

I have the EX35 since Sept. 2008 and I also find it a bit difficult to adjust the seat comfortably. I finally found the problem after 2 years of owning it--- I think my weight fluctuates every week. :gapteeth:

Wow, truly this must be a case of different strokes for different folks. Of all the cars that I have owned, I find the EX's the most comfortable. I liked my G35's coupe ones with the sides and seat bolsters, but the EX's are more supportive yet comfortable. For me, they are even better than either of my MDX's (01 and now the 08.) Maybe many of you do not like the wrapped type feeling one gets with the EX's seats?

As mentioned above, I wonder if it's a case of too many options? Even then, isn't it interesting to think that we have so many adjustment options, yet most of us want to find that perfect one and leave it? I do know that with all my vehicles, I have adjusted my seat some due to coat wearing. It's so easy to adjust that even though I use the memory, I have tweaked the settings. I've only had our EX for a few weeks so the coat issue hasn't surfaced at all.

I don't usually drive the EX35 since it's my wife's main vehicle. But when I do drive it, the seat is fine...I guess depends on your expectations on the 'type' of seat you are looking for. It's definitely not the 'comfy relax' type but rather 'bucket / wrap around tight / support / sporty while luxury' type. I am about 5"10' 200lbs, and I've sat in an MB C63 a few months ago and my back had a tough time touching the back of the seat..not to mention my butt was 2 inches wider than the bucket seat  . The EX35 barely fits me (would be better if the entier seat is an inch wider) but it fits my wife perfectly. She actually fits alot better in the Lexus IS-F (which of course I would not fit). I did have to make several adjustments when I drive the EX35 but it's not that bad. It's not a 'wide' vehicle, but again..size matters.

All good news. I like driving snug with knees touching the dash and felt perfectly at home in the EX35 on the first drive. With a seatbeltless Ford Galaxy 500 as my first car, I learned to LOVE being held in place no matter which way or how fast the car is going!

I've had a bad back for many years and can say that I've had no back pain from my seat. In fact, I have not even thought about my back when driving. It's a lower back issue from a fall many years ago on my tail bone. At the end of the day I'm pleased with the seat comfort.
