Probably because they're tired of paying the guys in my department so much for gas.

They're considering Priuses, but given the Prius's horrible trunk, I suggested the Versa... even though I'm having difficulty with mine, I can't deny that the car does a DAMN good job at what we do.

If they do buy work vehicles, I'd get one of the first 2.

For what you do, they might see what kind of fleet price they could get on Matrix, Vibe, xD or Fit and then decide. At least they could explore the fold flat cargo areas for you guys. Different companies offer different fleet packages so they might get as good as or a better fleet deal from a company other than Nissan. Let them bid against each other.

My buddy has a Vibe and raves about it. And, they aren't nearly as ugly as they used to be.

But, the other manufacturers would have to give rather substantial discounts to match the lower price of the Versa and compensate for the lack of features offered on the V.

Depends on which Versa model they're looking at. The Fit might be something the company would shove down the workers' throats for the same price without discounts.

You're right about the Vibe. That was actually what we were buying until the Buick/GMC dealer's repair dep't did a number on us with the Rendezvous and we walked away from them. My best friend has a Vibe that he got from Carmax and I like it even better every time I get in it.

As for the fleet price discounts, it depends on what the car companies think the cars will be worth at the end of the lease. I really believe the Hondas and Toyotas will hold their value better than the Versa because the general public sees them as better quality cars.

Well, we're once again in the phase of Honda dealers tacking on the non-negotiable $4000 "value-added markup" to the price of the car. With the waves and waves of people trading in trucks for small cars out here, even a 1 year old used Fit can command $18k. Since the local Nissan dealers don't play that game, they aren't in the same price category, realistically.

We sometimes have to drive fairly long distances, and in the rental Vibe that I had, I could not adjust the seat and wheel to a comfortable driving position. The seat cushion felt too tall, or the wheel was too short, or some combination of the two. The seats themselves were hard as rocks... even harder than in our Tucson. Also, I remember it having a very narrow "cockpit" like feel where you put your legs.

I'm just 1k shy of 30,000 miles now, and still haven't owned the car one year. But, then again, that's not my problem.

Honestly I could care less what they pick as long as it does the job and has air conditioning. Less wear and tear on my own car... and since gas prices have gone up so much, our reimbursements haven't been able to keep up with maintenance. So at the moment, that's an expense I'm bearing completely out of pocket.

Man, that would be cool if they went with V's for fleet vehicles.

I noticed NAPA Auto Parts around here have started using the little Yaris hatchbacks. Definitely saving a ton of money in gas every year over the S-10 trucks they were using.

Our NAPAs use bright yellow Aveos.

And there's a couple locksmiths that use Versas around here, too.

Actually, that's not much of a consideration. The non-flat floors have not proven disadvantageous in any way.

I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the Accent was on the short list. They could just drop the seats and run them that way 24/7. And they're very close to the top of the "cheapest to operate" list.

The only thing that I don't like about the Accent is that it is a 2-door hatch. The Versa's 4-doors make it much easier to load and unload. When I was doing a lot of delivering I sure enjoyed the side access to maneuver the large boxes.

That said, they are pretty cheap, and the hyundai dealerships (at least here in Vegas) have big sales and I am sure would jump all over a bulk purchase.
