Looking for opinions on work boots. It is best if you work in a shop type enviornment, but any opinion is nice. I have some Redhead's that I got from Bass Pro Shop and they are starting to fall apart after a few months. Red Wings were the last 2 pairs and they fell apart in less than 6 months for both.

What do you wear? How long have they lasted?

Thanks!

Jeff

Chippewa. I have abused the hell out of them over the last 2 summers. Still holding together well and I should be able to get another year out of them. In a shop type atmosphere you could probably get 10 years out of them if not more

I have a pair of Rocky's that i've had for 3 years now. I don't wear them all the time, but anytime i'm riding dirtbikes or working in the outdoors I wear them. They still look really nice too when I condition/oil them.

What kind of chemicals are you working with / stepping in? Are steel-toes a requirement?

+2 for Rocky's.

Any fluid that comes out of a car/truck. I don't care for steel toe, but not a deal breaker.

i had to buy safety toed boots for my stints at the power plant (i never wore them before since i'm actually a floor guy and hard toes aren't very nice to floors). because i didn't want to change shoes every day to get through the metal detectors, i opted for composite toes. all the protection of steel toed boots, only lighter and they don't get stupid cold in the winter.

popular mechanics suggested these for mechanics.

False. Steel toes are only needed if you do heavy construction. I've had a wide range of everyday equipment dropped on my foot without steel toes and cant see where they help much. Some sites still require them for PPE, tho.

I have a pair of rockys that have lasted 10 years, and I use them almost every day. Now they finally need resoling cause the tread wore out, lol.

I bought a cheap pair of Roebucks steel toed for those union jobsites I visit, they hold up pretty good for cheapies. And they're comfortable.

Dr. Marten's, good quality boot. I had the full length slip on steel toe. I was jumping up and down off of cranes and heavy equipment all day and I felt fine when I got home. Good price too.

Scetchers Work! boots are some of the most comfortable steel toes I've ever strapped on right out of the box. They are not too expensive either. I get about two years out of them too.

Last year I got a pair of composite toes from Caterpillar when the shoe truck came to out plant. They are shoes but damn comfortable.
