I just got off the phone with one of my insurance agents over at Nationwide. Not sure about other insurance companies, but here is my story:

Firstly let me begin by stating that regular nationwide coverage allows you $1500 reimbursement for aftermarket products incase they are damaged, stolen, or destroyed. I wanted to know how much more per month it would be to insure aftermarket products on my Coupe. Basically to make a long story short, nationwide will NOT insure any vehicle with suspension modifications (according to the underwriter). I am having this doublechecked again because it sounds like a bunch of BS. I can understand kids dropping their rides 3-8 inches, but an inch and a half is nothing and if anything makes the car safer by dropping the center of gravity...

The underwriter also stated that an exhaust system is "iffy" due to the fact it may increase the performance of the vehicle. I was like come on lady, it's only a few horses.

Has anyone had this experience? What insurance do you use to insure your ride and aftermarket products and installations?

I am getting clarification from the underwriter tomorrow hopefully. But holy crap, I've been paying for insurance since my pro-kit springs were installed when my car is not even "elgible" for insurance? How would they know you had them installed? 1.5" is not noticable and the springs themselves look almost OEM.

I'd rather not keep insurance that states they won't insure a vehicle with modified suspension-- when the modifications I made only ensure that the vehicle is now safer due to better handling!!

I guess nationwide isn't on your side... lol sorry couldn't help myself. Maybe I'll have to call statefarm and see what they say about aftermarket mods.

I'm hoping so. What insurance do you each use and what type of insurance do you pay for aftermarket modifications? Are there any limitations to what aftermarket modifications you can insure?

I'm sure this information would be useful to many people here.

I currently have ALLSTATE, and I have insurance to cover my extra audio/video stuff... but I'm gonna have to increse the coverage amount after my upcoming install!

Just in terms of covering those aftermarket products, how much are you covered for and how much extra a month or 6 months do you pay?

I'll start--Nationwide gives you $1500 of insurance for aftermarket products "included" in your regularly monthly rate (so basically the first $1500 free).

I had my agent price another $1500 into the computer which would total $3000 with the already included $1500 from before that I mentioned and that would raise my insurance up $30 or so every 6 months.

Still waiting on a call from my agent/underwriter on the suspension issue.

Usually if your replacing suspension parts with stronger parts not really a problem. If they can prove the accident was caused by aftermarket suspension piece the broke good luck there! Also many insurance policys have the "suspension modification clause" in there because of the fools with jacked up cars with 26" rims
