Ive finally filled the tank in the Maxima. ALL THE WAY this time. None of that $5-10 BS. I usually take dads debit card(with his permission of course) and put in $15-20 on Monday or Tuesday. and put in $5-10 when dad's gas runs out. Yea Im a cheap bastard. But I got the debit card tonight and dad says $25 since I shoveled the wet snow filled driveway during freezing rain(snowblower needed service). BANGIN! Put that in the tank. Hmmmm...Im feelin crazy. I believe Ill fill the rest up with my own money. $33.75 total of 87 octane to fill this bad boy up. Hotness at its finest.

BTW, the last time the car had a filled tank, was ummmm....11 months ago and 3/4 every 1 or 2 months. In between that nothin but 1/4 tank goodness.

And see I'm just the opposite. I rarely ever see the needle get below half at all.

In the Q, the pump uses the additional fuel as "coolant" and thus the fuller tank helps prolong pump life.

I'm gonna have to go make a sandwich or something so I can come back and read the explanation of how that works??

I mean I agree with filling it up, ultimately the only difference is the $5 that could be in your pocket is in the tank, but you gotta help me see the economics of "cheaper to fill up"??

Cheap bastard or not, you're spending the same amount of money on gas, just if you fill it up all the way you don't have to go back so often.

And people have tried to tell me many times that if you'll get better gas milage if you keep your tank above half all the time... I say that's BS. There is no reason why you would get better gas milage that I've been able to think of. If anything, the less gas you have in the tank, the less your car weighs, the better gas milage you could potentially get.

What I tend to do is fill my tank all the way up, then wait till I get to < 1/4 to fill it up again; despite many people telling me to fill it up at the 1/4 point, i just say "we'll make it". Yeah, I'M THE CHEAP BASTARD

and as far as the economics, ummm :looks over to wes:

Well like I said. I just put in $5 or $10 at the most. Dad gives me $15-20. So if and I mean IF I need more, Ill put it in. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I dont. Depends on the week. So ya. I do save some. Every lil bit counts.

Haha, sounds like me. I got the Max back from the shop on Monday (for the THIRD time...oi... ). My dad took me down there, and filled her up for me. ALL the frickin way. That's the first time in months I've had a full tank. Still at half, too. I'd go through a half tank a day just between work and home in the Ford, but the Max goes for weeks on a full one. I generally put $15 at a time, which keeps the Max just above 3/4.

WOOT indeed.

I can usually go two weeks on a full tank. My job is 35 minutes away at 75 mph. But then...I've been hainvg to drive VERY carefully because my forward motor mount is broken, and I don't want to stress things. I'm replacing it saturday, and after that, I'll go back to driving the hell out of it.

Seems wierd. You'd think the DOHC engine would do better for gas milage. Hmmm...

Yet another side effect of having a car that is possessed. (Laugh all you want...but go for a ride with me and you'll agree.)

don't feel too bad fellas, I go through a tank of 91 every 3-4 days depending on how I drive I also have a 40 mile ride one way to work, mix of stop and go/freeway (about equal parts actually). Now that $hit gets expensive real quick.

Drive to work for me is at 10:00 at night. No stop and go for me!

If I drove normal rush hour to work, I'd probably use quite a bit more gas.

There's also no need to run 91 octane at my altitude, so it's a lot cheaper than it would be there in SoCal.

I wish i didn't have to comute. It's so bad in socal, not to mention the gas prices that are through the fricking roof. and it's for crap 91 to boot.

91 is crap? What are the standard octane levels for gas there?

here it's 85, 87 and 91. 87 is all you need, though. 91 is too much, unless you have pissy knock sensors.

see sig, I need 91. and most states get 92 or 93. I didn't think 85 was still available anywhere. isn't 85 damn near leaded gasoline. we get 87,89 and 91 in cali.

I should feel bad because I go through a tank every 3-4 days and thats alittle over 100 miles a tank. Yes very ****ty gas mileage. But it is partically my fault. 4 cyl. Jeep Wrangler with 32" tires, a 5-speed transmission missing 5 gear, and very bad exhaust leak mixed with a custom exhaust job with no cat.

Yeah I know I need to but I have something else in mind for it when I get to it.I am thinking about sticking an AMC 304 V-8 in it but it will be after it is paid off and alittle over a year left on it.
