yes yes yes, i am going to convert the old slush 240 to a 5spd and i can't wait. i'm getting everything except the driveshaft, engine backing plate, and hydro lines for $350 shipped. he said he thought he had the slave cylinder, looked for it, couldn't find it, determined it lost, and graciously went out and bought me a BRAND NEW one at NO EXTRA COST. that was so awesome!! i have everything else i needed sourced, just have to rebuild my monitary funds. i owed my parents some money unfortunately, otherwise the other parts would also be on their way. i plan on selling the clutch that comes w/ the conversion. its an OEM with about 1000 miles on it. so i will sell that and whatever else, and i am going to buy an ACT Street or 6puck. i'm still trying to find a 300zx shift knob for cheap, but am not having luck. i'll get a new one probably. my b-day is in a few days, so i'll be gettin money well, i'm very excited so i thought i would share

P.S. me, cnichols, redrocket and former_240_s14 are all most likely going to be doing the install ourselves. wish us luck.

P.P.S. any recomendations on transmission fluid? Redline?

u can find all of the parts from http://www.240sx.org/installs or sumthing like that. just go to 240sx.org and go to the installs page and find the 5spd swap. but basically you need these things as far as parts go: transmission, FSM, shifter, engine backing plate, clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, new flywheel bolts (the 5spd ones are longer), driveshaft, pedals, clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, and then just the shift boots and stuff. i don't think i forgot anything

I just did the conversion. I am having alot of problems with the clutch engagement point. I seem to get it right and it feels fine them the next day i go out its hard to shift and i have to readjust the petal. And if anyone knows, i need to find the wires to hook up my reverse light from the sensor to the connections by the battery. Currently i don't have a transmission wiring harness. I have so far bypassed the neutral saftey switch and coneccted the speed sensor. Nick

wiring, dunno. we'll figure sumthin out. and the plate IS necessary for the swap. you will have to get one from a 5spd 240.

574-240sx or whoever, lol, do you have any pics of your install? any pointers/thing to look out for? anything will help!!

The hardest part is drilling the hole for the master cylinder. Yes it is a pain getting to the bolts for the auto transmission. The manual goes in much easier and there is much more room to work. I did all of this on my back in my garage and the car was out latter that day with the help of a friend. You will find it easier to jack up the transmission to pull all the bolts up the top of the transmission. Plan to get you flywheel resurfaced and put lock tight on the flywheel bolt and torque them down to 105ft/lbs, as i found out. You don't need to replace your brake petal just cut it down and place the rubber cover piece over it. Nick

ben the removal and installation of those two diff brake pedals is a total pain in the arse i had a guy do one last week and he said after all is done he would have prob just cut the pedal down.. i told him about that trick after he was finished he wasnt to please finding out there was an easier way then droping the coulmn and taking apart some of the dash and removing the seat

this is very helpful dude, for real! i am not understand the part about jacking up the transmission. you jack the auto transmission up farther and it makes it easier to get to the bolts?but those are some very helpful hints, thanks alot!

heck yea i'm interested in getting rid of it. it has 119,xxx miles, shifts perfect. shifts hard when hard on the gas. i've never had a problem with it. i have no idea when i'll be doing the actual swap though. how soon do you need the transmission? my swap won't be for another month, month and a half i bet.

disconnect the drive shaft and crossmember. Yes i ment jack the rear of the transmission up till it stops. It will tilt the engine away from the firewall so you have more room to get to the the 3 bolts at the top of the transmission and the starter bolts on the auto you are pulling out. Or you could do it the hard way and use 5 feet of extentions and universal knuckels. Nick
