Ummm, any reason why you didn't mask off the areas of the engine you didn't want to get that cherry red paint on? Ideally you would have removed the timing cover and valve covers but you could have AT LEAST masked everything else off.

Lol, i agree, thats an awesome color, but it doesnt look so great with everything thats got overspray on it, take some B12 CHEMTOOL CARB CLEANER, you can get it at oreily's or autozone, and spray it on the areas that you got overspray and the over spray will practically roll off,

lol this is funny, and he even cherried the inside of the TB a little

hey is that a SSautocrome manifold?

also i dunnot it looks like there might be a little clearence problem with the charge pipe over the top of the motor and the turbo (angle of pics its hard to tell)

what kinda turbo u got on there man?

Yeah, I planned on some cleanup work on the overspray. It's funny becauyse in the shop the overspray is barely noticable, but the digicam really made it stand out.

And the intake pipe will hit the turbo, but I am fabbing my own anyways, good thing I didn't start on it yet. Yes, it is the cheap *** ssautochrome, but I welded a piece of round stock stainless frm the turbo flange to the head flange to re-inforce it.

I was talking with a friend of mine building up a SC300 and he said hes using the SSAuto manifold aswell. I hear all kinds of bad new about those so I asked him why he was going to go with it. He said if it crack it cracks, its cheap so hell just get another.

That is a nice color, but yea clean that up =P

OVER SPRAY LIKE A MOTHA lol

Kinda getting off topic but I'm going to upgrade to the SS autochrome top mount with a lot of hacking. Me and RBtally were talking about it today and it is cheaper to start with this and add what we want. anyways.....i'd buy some paint remover... serious WHY?

I'm telling you. Just use the manifold and if it cracks take it off and send it to a place that makes manifolds and have it copied.

So that would be a knockoff of a knockoff? I want to see someone run this manifold against a stock setup and make sure it aids and doesn't hender the motor before watching someone waste the time and money to copy it...

Keep it up bud... when do you expect to finish?

I have used the SS Auto manifold on my setup. With stock turbo and all...I hit full boost about 500rpm earlier than compared to the stock manifold. I haven't had any major issues with the manifold itself...no cracking, bending, breaking of any kind. The only prob I had was on the install....the very front hole for the stud was a tight fit...had to dremel it out maybe 1mm or so. Other than that no major complaints...it also added a pretty nice exhaust note too.....

i cant imagine that he would loose power with a larger diamater runner manfold (confusing, no?).stock manifold is great for just that, stock.........on the rb20 its got runners the size of quarters at best, i would imagine that the rb25 one is the same.........i know on my rb20 with the hks manifold the runners are substantialy larger in diamater than the ports on the head, so there is proly some turbulance generated by that, where a good port and polish would do it justice.

The 20 head is definitely restrictive... porting should be done. My point on the manifold is correct sizing. I don't know how big the runners are diameter wise, but to big = low exh velocity... along with the longer runners, which also should be tuned to the correct length without "S" bends or any un-needed tight radius bends, that put the turbo further away from the head... what kind of pulses are you getting in each runner... etc

I know it's not going to be a perfect manifold for the price, but it would be good to have some thought behind it. I bet it's better than stock... but with what tradeoffs?

I would not have expected a faster spool time... interesting you found yours spooled faster...

It could turn out to be a great manifold with a really good design... but I'd prove it before replicating it with a durable copy... just my opinion

Yeah, upon install the rear studs on Cyl 6 were about a 1/8" off. All I did was take a butane torch and heat up the flange enough to make it expand and slide over the studs. I also took a piece of 1/2 SS round stock and bent it into an "L" the welded the foot of the "L" to the head flange and the leg part to the turbo flange at the rear to help support the weight of the turbo. That should keep it from flexing and breaking.

I make over $21 per hour and I take all the overtime I can get. How else can I support such an expensive habit? I am finally getting this weekend off totally and am spending alot of time on the car. I wil post pics of the cleanup of the overspray you all love and further installations.

A warning about that manidfold: Some 5 bolt turbos will not fit. One of the bolt holes stick out of the turbo and will hit the valve cover. The turbo flange is angled way too much on the manifold.

what if you sliced the turbo flange off and angeled it better?

And I just noticed you sprayed over the CAS... should be fun when you need to remove it. keep us posted, always love pics

Yeah, my turbo had a 4 hole exh. setup but there was a "tit' where the housing could have been drilled for the 5 hole set-up. I took my grinder to it and everything was fine.

And I have already take my CAS off after painting. No probs.

i ordered one of the ebay manifolds and sent it back, had to get my money through paypal. anyway, the flange wouldnt go on to the head without major dremeling and more importantly the 6th runner was so close to the firewall that i think the only downpipe that could have fit back there would have been a 2". just watch out for the last runner it might restrict a larger diameter dp!

I bought a JGY short shifter for the RB20, and it in no way was even close to fitting, then they gave me a really tough time returning it.
