Wood Trim Peeling - FYI

Just spoke to my dealer to setup an appointment...

A while ago Infiniti sent out letters to owners of certain cars about the wood trim warranty being extended. I can't find my letter, so I didn't know the terms.

According to my dealer (Lia Infiniti in Latham, NY), is up to 100kmi.

Talk about cutting it close. I'm at like 99,500 right now lol.

They will do the whole set, not just the door that's peeling (I was happy about that). Takes about 2 hours he said.

The dealer replaced all of my door trim. The new wood was slightly darker than the wood on the dash, etc. The dealer ordered in a new set and they looked identical to what was already installed, so we both elected not to replace it. Basically they explained that when they order all of the door replacement kits it was from newer stock than what was originally installed and what they receive when ordering replacements for the dash.

You only notice it if you're specifically looking for it. I've never had anyone else ever mention it or ask about it. The new trim is about 1.5 years old and I don't have any of the peeling problem.

They have done this a few times with a few QC items over the years. Then again in some of the newer cars they have also gone as far call many of them back and proactively updated whatever part it is.

This is a biggie though. The parts are actually quite expensive, and it is not dealer markup. This is something that can seriously change your satisfaction level (and value) for the car. The actual time it take to replace all of these is about 80 minutes for most guys, warranty pays 1.1 hours for most of them I think.

I have seen some where there is a slight difference in color but there have only been a few come by my way. There really is not a whole lot that can be done about it. I know of a few that have never complained about so I was under the assumption that most people either A) notice it and do not care enough, or B) never even noticed it. But then again the car forum folk have no idea the things people can overlook or look past.

Many of the M owners that frequent dealers and are within the warrantable range have already had the counter measure parts installed as this bulletin has been out for some time now.

I've been replacing these since the bulletin came out and I have never done a second set on the same car. I have replaced updated parts in cars that had panels replaced prior to the bulletin but never a peeling second set.

The wood is definitely different, but it's similar. I would agree that most people won't even notice it.
