I am bidding on a wood grain bezel (one piece unit that includes the ash tray) for my '94 J30t. I need some advice on the removal of the existing bevel. I have removed the black vinyl cover on the console and removed the screws securing it at the base, but can't seem to dislodge it at the top. Is it also screwed in at the top, or do I just need to pull a little harder (Clips) Any tips or advice on removing and adding the new bezel would be appreciated. Also, the one that I am bidding on from e-bay is coming out of a '93 J. Is it identical to the one in my '94 J30t?Thanks:help

Carstereohelp.com used to have some step by step pics on removing parts of the dash, but has gone to a "for fee" site. Still might be worth checking their site.

The carstereohelp stuff is still there.

There's not much to removing the bezel. Follow the instructions on the link above. The main thing is that the two top retaining clips are VERY tough to undo. Don't force things. The first time I removed the bezel (it gets easier after the first time) I thought I was going to snap the bezel in half.

What finally did the trick was to use a hool tool to pull on the top of the bezel. There are two clips about 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the left and right top edges of the bezel (above the AC controls). Look at the fourth image on the above link. The clip location is marked by two red rectangles.

Anyway, it helps to slide a hook took behind the bezel where those clips are located and give it a firm pull (straight back) and the bezel will pop right out.

Here's the tool I used for it.

Good luck.

Appreciate the information Rex and Carlos. Thank you also Carlos for posting the active URL's for directions and the tool. There is a Sears about 5 miles away. Will stop by there tomorrow. Do you see any problem with that bezel fitting my '94 J30t. The one I am bidding on is out of a "93 J30. Again, Thanks !!!

If I'm not mistaken, I think the bezel is identical for the entire J30 production (93-97).

Worst case, you can resell it on Ebay. Those ALWAYS sell.

Carlos:

Appreciate the post. Am confident that it will match up perfectly. Good suggestion of listing on e-bay if it doesn't work. These are great looking cars and I am trying to keep it just as original as I can. It is my wife's car, she is the original owner. Stays garaged with only 61,000 miles on the odometer. Problem in Tampa is service. No one that takes pride in there Infiniti takes it to the dealership. Semper fi
