I just got my all most new 1990 q...and noticed the clear plastic that covers the center counsel was curled up on the edges.....I wanted to see if it could flex and pushed down ever so gently and BAM.....it broke and cracked off.......

Whats the fix for this piece.....anybody repaired that center piece?

ThanksJohn

FREE just trash and replace the panel.

Or just find one from a junkyard.

Spills from a coffee drinker. Below the shifter is about the only level place in the car to rest a cup. Sounds like a large piece broke off below the shifter? I'm partial to JB Weld. It's a very strong 2 part epoxy adhesive and would work great as a temporary fix.

For the long term look for a replacement. Post up a WTB thread in the parts forum. My previous 90Q had the same problem with the clearcoat peeling so I took it off and lived with the small screw holes in the black bezel.

How's the new Q running?

Is the wood trim on yor car real or fake?

I think on the 1994+ it was real that's why I ask.

This is the small square shape wood panel surrounding the shifter.....its a clear coat over real wood............the clear has cracked and I am debating weather to try and take all the clear off and varnish it...not sure whhat wood species it is...

Dont think JB weld will work.... The plastic coating is curling up on all the edges.

The car is almost spotless.........looks like it has been in a bag for twenty years. I could not ask for anything better as far as the body and interior go. There is a piece of trim missing around the map lights but that was about it.

T3 put the metal chain guards on the engine and I changed the TCU for a first gear start ad wes sent me a ecu.

The car has a trans cooler on it when it got here.

I just bought a 94 fuel rail and harness from a member and bought a set of Deatchwerks injectors for the phase 2 conversion.

Changing out the struts and a couple other minor things and other than that its spotless.....what I could not get over is the shape of the interior and all the rubber on the car......all the door seals etc are like new.

The Japs must have used some good quality material back in 90 because everything still looks new.

Everything seems to work as well........

Just have to decide how to fix that counsel without ruining it...the wood plate should come out somehow and then it could have some heavy urethane applied to it and go back on.....

Thanks for the ideas...

Any wood in a pre-1994 G50 is aftermarket and/or fake.

Well the wood is put on with double sided tape so if you really want fix it some how just remove the piece by reading the FSM: http://Nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45 then go to the BF section then go to the Interior and Exterior label.Remove all the pieces and then use a heat gun to separate the wood from the leather then repair.

Better to find the piece if available at the junk yard, then use 303 Aerospace Protectant on the pieces

But honestly those pieces just bring the value up marginally but bring the interior look down.
