Okay... Im stumped on this one. For the car to start I have to poor a little gas in the intake manifold, but once it starts, I cant shut it off unless I disconnect the coils. So basically, the car has a starting problem, and a stopping problem... any input would be greatly appriciated

(93' SR20DET in a 89' Chassis)

I have never heard of anything like this and I also don't have anything to help, but it sounds to me you need a new engine, lol.

Ok, so the problem is a bit strange, but the diagnosis for a new engine is a little severe (sounds like a shop owner/dealer... ).

Maybe a little more info on the actual problem would be good.

Is this a carburated engine? Assuming your dropping fuel into the top of the carb? Pumping the accelerator before start-up (of course only with a carburated engine) does not help?

Also, when you "shut it off" does it keep running smoothly (ignition still 'on') or is it sputtering but just not dying (run-on/dieseling)?

Has it gradually got to this point, or is it sudden? Any other issues?

Assuming it is a carburated engine, it sounds like the carb could use a good cleaning/servicing. Pumping the accelerator before starting injects fuel from the float bowls into the carb body and into the intake manifold - similar to what you are doing manually. Sounds like the jets are not working. Could be dirty...

Just some thoughts to start the diagnosis, but certainly don't run out and replace the engine quite yet.

Based on the sig, I'd assume fuel injected. Sounds to me like there are 2 different issues going on. My first question is once you get it started and the engine warmed up, if you stop the motor and try starting it again, does it start up easily or do you have to put some fuel in the intake mani again?

As far as stopping the motor, lets have some background on the SR install. Has it run normally since you put it in or has this always been an issue? Since it's a fuel injected vehicle, it would likely be an electrical issue. The ECU should not be providing an injector pulse after you turn the key away from on,. Once the fuel cut occurs, the engine should die. It sounds like the ECU does not know the key was turned to acc or off.

That's kinda what I figured, but how (or where) do you pour fuel into the intake manifold on a fuel injected engine? Looking at my '92 with a V6, I can't see where a guy would do that. Just a little ignorant about that part of my engine I guess...

Sorry for the post hi-jack, just asking a stupid question.

Yeah its a 93' SR20DET put into an 89' 240SX Chassis, I can take the key completly out and the car runs exactly the same, idles smooth. I just recently put this engine into the car, hasnt been driven since the swap. It only cranked but never caught, so I was troubleshooting and took the piping off the throttlebody and put a little bit of gas in and it started right up. I let the engine run for like 15 minutes thinking maybe if it ran for awhile it would start right up next time. So after taking the key out then unplugging coils to shut it down, I plugged the coils back in and tried to start it, just cranked but didnt catch.

Got your fuel lines hooke dup right? Fuel pump working? Maybe it has enough to help flow once the engine needs it...Please check you oil now and see if it smells like gas...killed my enigne from that maybe injector leaking... I'd check all your wiring. First start by seeing if your coil has power with the key turned off. I say it's your ignition wire......
