ok today took off my dizzy cap to replace it, but when i looked @ the prongs inside the cap there was build up on them so i cleaned off all the prongs and reinstalled the cap....but now when i start the car it sounds really really quiet and idles fine its like somthing ive never seen before. kinda like its only running on one piston...so while running i removed 1 plug wire @ a time and found that they were all firing. but as soon as i touch the gas the engine dies....i'm think'n its getting weak spark now and should change the dizzy cap.....what do you think?? thanks 4 your help

what rpm is the idle? was the rotor tightened down enough? were the ignition wires plugged into the right outlets on the distributor cap?

there was probably so much **** on the end of the rotor that it was the only thing keeping the contact nice and strong.replace cap and rotor, they are cheap.

thanks everyone!!! i found the problem!!I kept putting the crank/pully & dizzy on tdc but the engine kept barly idling and dieing.

so even though it was @ tdc it for some reason it wasnt "true" its kinda off for some reason. maybe the cams jumped a tooth or somthing (i have a raddling timing chain), causing tdc to be off...anyways it runs now thanks abunch....next job is to replace timing chains

no no noyour ignition timing should be at the next to last mark for the DOHC KA. line up the marks then align the distributor with the dot on the gear, then slide it in. should be perfect.
